After a lengthy 30 year wait for an English top flight title, Liverpool finally sealed the Premier League title last night in what will most definitely go down as the most obscure season in history.
They won their first Premier League trophy without kicking a ball, watching on in separate houses as Chelsea clinched a shock win over Manchester City to mathematically end the title race. There were no fans present, no parades in the street and all celebrations were strictly social distant (or maybe not), but that won’t matter to them.
Speaking to Sky Sports, an emotional Jurgen Klopp said “I have no words,”
“It’s the best thing I can imagine and more than I could have ever dreamed of. It’s unbelievable. Much more than I ever thought would be possible.”

Record breaking Reds
Manchester City’s defeat on Thursday saw Liverpool break yet another Premier League record, winning a title with the most remaining games (7).
This is the latest in a growing list of shattered benchmarks, and there’s still seven games left to play in the season. Here’s what Jurgen Klopp’s dominant side have managed so far:
- 23 – Most consecutive home wins (9th February 2019 – present)
- 18 – Most consecutive wins (27th October 2019 – 24th February 2020). Joint with Manchester City.
- 12 – Most Premier League assists in a season by a defender (Trent Alexander-Arnold). Joint with himself in 2018/19.
- 7 – Winning a title with the most remaining games.
- 5 – Jurgen Klopp: Most Premier League Manager of the Month awards in a single season.
- Defeated all league opponents at least once in a season. Joint with Chelsea (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11 and 2017/18) and Manchester City (2017/18 and 2018/19).
- Latest team to win the Premier League title (25th June).
Which Premier League records are still up for grabs?
With seven games remaining in the season, there are still a number of Premier League records that can be broken by Jurgen Klopp’s merry band of marauding players.
The chances are he’ll opt to give some of his youth players a run out rather than risk overworking Liverpool’s stars ahead of a gruelling 2020/21 title defence, but even so we could see some seemingly unachievable records topple before the final game of the season.
Liverpool start their glory tour at none other than Manchester City next week before facing off against Aston Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle in the remainder of the Premier League run in.
Here are the Premier League records that could still fall into the realms of Anfield:
Most points in a Premier League season (100 points)
This is a biggie. With seven games remaining Liverpool are only 14 points off matching Manchester City’s 100 point tally from 2017/18. All they need to do is win five of their remaining seven games to reach a landmark 101 points, and even with a rotated squad you would think that’s achievable.
Of course, matches against Manchester City and Chelsea won’t be easy, but victories against Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Arsenal and Newcastle are all expected, so it’s well within their grasp.
Biggest title winning margin (19 points)
Manchester City set this record in 2017/18 when they romped to the title ahead of arch rivals Manchester United, but it looks almost certain to be heading to Anfield this season.
They currently lead Manchester City by a gigantic 23 points, so simply matching The Citizens’ results from now until the end of the season would do the trick.
Most home points in a season (55 points)
A record jointly held by Chelsea (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11) and Manchester City (2011/12), Liverpool can knock all three of these off their perches.
Three of their seven remaining games are at Anfield and, with a standing tally of 48 points, they just need two wins and a draw to become the fourth team on this list. Three wins would see them take all the glory for themselves, and it’s certainly not unachievable against Aston Villa, Burnley and Chelsea.
Most away points in a season (50 points)
This is one they can’t quite take for themselves. With four games remaining and a current tally of 38 points away from home, the best Liverpool can do is match Manchester City’s 2017/18 tally of 50 points.
However, with rotation likely and a trip to Manchester City coming up next week, it makes this one of the more unlikely records they will break.
Most wins in a season (32)
A three point haul in five of their remaining seven games would see Liverpool take another record of Manchester City’s hands. The Citizens achieved 32 wins in both 2017/18 and 2018/19, but with easily winnable games against Aston Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Arsenal and Newcastle coming up we could see this fall.
Most home wins in a season (18)
Chelsea (2005/06), Manchester United (2010/11) and Manchester City (2011/12 and 2018/19) jointly hold this record of only failing to win a single home game all season.
Liverpool are currently on 16 for 16 at Anfield in the Premier League, so a continuation of this perfect haul would write them into the history books.
Most away wins in a season (16)
Another Manchester City record from their incredible 2017/18 campaign, and yet another that Liverpool could match in their astonishing 2019/20 term.
The Reds currently hold 12 wins from 15 away games, meaning only a perfect record from now until the end of the season would allow them to match The Citizens record on the road.
Fewest home defeats in a season (0)
Obviously you can break a perfect record, but they could add this season to the many teams that have remained unbeaten on home soil throughout the season.
Chelsea have done this on five occasions, while Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool themselves have three times. Manchester City and Spurs have both managed this accolade once, so Liverpool could become only the second team to achieve an unbeaten home record four times.
Most goals scored in a season (106)
This would require a pretty insane effort. Liverpool are currently sitting on 70 goals over their 31 games, meaning they would need to average 5.14 goals per game for the rest of the season to match Manchester City’s 2017/18 total.
Interestingly, Manchester City would only need to average just over four goals per game to match their own record. Stranger things have happened.
Fewest goals conceded away in a season (9)
Chelsea achieved this remarkable defensive tally in 2004/05 in the midst of Jose Mourinho’s rise to stardom. In all honesty it’s unlikely to be broken anytime soon – Liverpool have a current tally of nine conceded goals on the road, meaning they would need to keep a clean sheet on their travels from now until the end of the campaign.
Starting with a trip to a wounded Manchester City. Maybe not.
