Rangers and Celtic meet for a fifth time this season in the Scottish Cup semi-final this afternoon (KO 1.30pm) and it’s Ange Postecoglou’s all-conquering Hoops that have had the upper hand, winning three and drawing the other so far.
But the Gers have knocked Celtic out of the last two editions of the competition and are the only side to have beaten them in the Scottish Cup since 2015.
Michael Beale’s sides’ last two performances against Celtic will give them some hope that they can cause Celtic problems but they’ve come off second best even when the Bhoys have been a bit below par.
Postecoglou has been boosted by the return of Reo Hatate and Jota to training this week. Both have been key men in this fixture and their inclusion could be significant. Rangers could also gamble on the fitness of defender Connor Goldson who has been missed in their defence.
Celtic have scored two or more in all four meetings this season and Kyogo Furuhashi has helped himself to five goals against their Glasgow rivals. The Japanese hitman is 3/1 to open the scoring or 4/5 to score anytime.
James Tavernier scored twice on Rangers’ recent visit to Celtic Park and the Gers’ penalty-taker looks over-priced at 10/3 to score compared to some others in the market. Willie Collum is the man on the whistle and he loves a penalty so the Light Blues’ captain could be on the spot again.
Having been as big as 13/10 earlier in the week Celtic have been backed in to 21/20 to win inside 90 minutes and that feels about right on the neutral turf at Hampden. Rangers are 12/5 to win and 5/4 to qualify.
The Celts have the greater quality in their squad and if they turn in a performance they’re capable of they should win.
Man City might be 1/14 to win the Premier League but they still have some work to do and a win today would take them top of the table for the first time since the middle of February.
Pep Guardiola’s side have a hectic schedule coming up with eight games in May ahead of two potential finals in June so at some point the Spaniard may choose to utilise his squad. Today could an opportunity to rotate at Fulham who look destined for a mid-table finish.
It’s getting harder and harder to find a betting angle on City’s matches, even Haaland is just 4/9 to score so combine them another couple of shorties from the Premier League today…
Spurs showed some fighting qualities to come back from two goals down and earn a point against Man Utd but could find the going tough at Liverpool today, as usual.
They’ve won just two of their last 35 league visits to Anfield and travel there winless in their last five away matches in the Premier League. The Reds are 1/2 to win today which would see them leapfrog Spurs in the table.
Southampton look doomed at the bottom of the table. Winless in eight it’s hard to see them get anything in Newcastle this afternoon. But for a blip against Villa, the Magpies have been in stunning form and should rack up a few goals this afternoon.
They’ve scored 17 in their last five and look very dangerous going forward at the moment. Over 2.5 goals for the home side appeals at 6/5.
