It’s potentially one the biggest matches in Scottish football in recent years but there won’t be a single Tartan Army foot soldier present in Oslo tonight.
Anything other than a win for Norway over Spain will see Scotland book their place at Euro 2024 next summer and the party can get under way.
The ideal result for the Scots is a draw – that would clinch qualification AND keep Steve Clarke’s men in the box seat for top spot in Group A but they’ll 100% take a Spanish win which is priced at 19/20.
That would be enough for Spain to qualify tonight too and with that kind of incentive they should get the job done.
Georgia have really disappointed in the same group but have the chance to put some gloss on their campaign with a home win over whipping boys Cyprus.
The undoubted star of the Georgian squad is Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia but there’s plenty of other players plying their trade across Europe’s top leagues. They’re just 2/7 to win this evening but the 11/8 on them to score Over 2.5 catches they eye.
In last year’s Nation’s League campaign they put four past Gibraltar, five past Bulgaria and three past North Macedonia. They warmed up for tonight’s clash with an eight goal haul against Thailand with Ajax’s Georges Mikautadze grabbing four.
A win for Wales against Croatia would put them right back in the mix for qualification and could line up a blockbusting finale to Group E when the Dragons host Turkey on the final match day.
The sides couldn’t be split in Split when Nathan Broadhead’s last gasp equaliser earned Robert Page’s side a valuable point back in March. That should give the Welsh confidence they can go toe-to-toe against an unpredictable Croatian side.
On their day Croatia are a match for anyone, as their third place finish at the World Cup proved. But if you’re looking for chinks in their armour then you could point to draws with Morocco and Japan (before winning on penalties) in Qatar and a home defeat to Turkey earlier in this campaign.
But despite an ageing squad it’s jam-packed with quality and if Wales are to win they’ll more than likely need to score two or more. That could be a tall order but Over 2.5 Goals looks big at 7/5.
There’s not been a lot of goals in Group D but this is must-win for Wales who need to go for it. That could leave them vulnerable at the other end and that price goals are worth taking on.
