The game of cat and mouse continues at the top of the Premier League table after Man City closed the gap on Arsenal with a narrow win at Crystal Palace last night.
Now it’s the Gunners’ move as they make the trip across London to Craven Cottage this afternoon. Arsenal have responded well to the pressures of life at the summit. Four wins in a row have helped them stay ahead of the pack led by City.
Fulham should provide them with a tough test this afternoon. The Cottagers have a decent record at home and their 2-1 loss to Brentford last time out was their first defeat in eight in all competitions.
But Mikel Arteta’s men, with winning momentum behind them, are more than capable of picking up the three points they so desperately want. The Gunners are unbeaten in nine (W7 D2) against Fulham and have scored 11 in their last three visits to Craven Cottage which bodes well for another three points today.
Man Utd bounced back from their humiliation at Anfield last weekend with a good win over Real Betis in the Europa League and should pick up the three points at Old Trafford where they’re unbeaten in 20 matches.
A win for Bournemouth and a point for Leeds left Southampton two points adrift at the bottom of the table overnight. They’ve not beaten United in the last 14 meetings and it looks a tall order this afternoon.
Newcastle are in danger of, what promised to be a fantastic season, drifting away from. Eddie Howe’s side are now five without a win, losing their last three and failing to score in each of those but they’ll fancy a return to winning ways in front of a full house at St James’ Park in today’s 4.30pm kick-off.
The Magpies still boast the best defensive record (17 conceded) in the top flight whilst opponents Wolves have the joint lowest goals tally (19) so they may just need to get their noses in front to take all three points in this one.
A 1-0 Newcastle win pays 11/2 whilst a home win to nil appeals at 6/4 as does under 2.5 goals at 8/11.
At Ibrox, Rangers are fully expected to join Inverness Caley Thistle and Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals. Raith Rovers are the visitors and one or two of their fans might snap up the 28s on offer before kick-off.
There’s not much value to be had in this one but one thing that stands out is Rangers’ captain and penatly-taker James Tavernier, who is 5/4 to score anytime. He’s the club’s joint top scorer this season but Bet365 have TEN Gers in front of him in the betting!
