An all-Manchester FA Cup final would be a brilliant finale to the season for the neutral but Brighton will have something to say about that at Wembley this afternoon.
Man City safely booked their place in the final with a fairly routine win over Sheffield United thanks to a Riyad Mahrez hat-trick. Now it’s over to Manchester United and Brighton to see who they’ll play in the showpiece at Wembley.
United are hard to back, even at 15/8, after a dismal display in Spain in midweek. They were outfoxed by Sevilla and dumped out of Europe with a bit of a whimper. It was another abject display by the Red Devils to add to their recent 7-0 loss at Anfield and a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle which must put some perspective on the task that still lies ahead for Erik ten Hag to turn things around.
Brighton are 10 points worse off than United in the Premier League but the bookies make them 11/8 favs to win inside 90 minutes and 3/4 to qualify. The Seagulls won at Old Trafford earlier in the season and come in to the match in better shape than United but look a bit short at those odds.
Neither side will want likely come out all guns blazing and there could be value in siding with no goal before 27:00 minutes at 5/6. Only four of United’s last 13 matches have seen a goal scored by either side before that mark and with stakes so high we could see a cagey start.
Newcastle should get the better of an up and down Tottenham side at St James’ Park. Spurs’ result have been all over the place and with uncertainty in the coaching staff they’re not in a very good place to finish the season strongly. The Magpies can take advantage at 4/5 to boost their top four chances.
We should be in for a cracker at Pittodrie where Aberdeen and Rangers renew their rivalry.
Barry Robson has been getting a tune out of Aberdeen since taking up the hotseat and has led them to third in the table which looked a long way off when Jim Goodwin departed.
Only Celtic have defeated Michael Beale’s Rangers but Aberdeen arguably came closer than anyone else in Beale’s third game in charge. Two late, late goals in the 95th and 97th minute saw Rangers nick the points in a 3-2 win back in December.
The Dons are in the best shape they’ve been all season and will attract plenty of interest at 11/2 to win and 11/8 in the Double Chance market.
With a Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic coming up next week there’ll be no taking the eye off the ball for the Gers despite being 13 points behind the champions in the Premier League table.
Luis ‘Duk’ Lopes has been in fantastic form for the Dons recently. He’s scored in four of his last five and will be the biggest threat for Aberdeen today at 12/5 to find the net.
We should see goals in this one and both teams to score appeals at 4/6 but add in Over 2.5 for an even money bet.
