Things are getting very tense at the top of the Premier League and this year’s title could come down to who handles the pressure.
Arsenal failed to do so against Brentford yesterday now it’s over to both halves of Manchester to see if they can pile on the pressure today.
But they’ve showed signs of strain recently too, in fact all of the top five have in recent weeks. Man City’s nine points from their last five fixtures is the best return, with Arsenal and Man Utd picking up eight, Newcastle seven and Spurs just six.
Erik ten Hag were held to a 2-2 draw by managerless Leeds Utd on Wednesday. Michael Skubala remains in charge at Elland Road while the search for a new gaffer continues but if he secures a win today his name might enter the frame.
It’s been 18 years since Leeds fans celebrated a victory in this fixture and they’re 14/5 shots to end that dismal run.
Casemiro misses out again for the Red Devils, serving the second game of a three-match ban and he’s big loss for Erik ten Hag’s side but Marcus Rashford is the key man at the moment. The England striker is the hottest marksman in Europe’s top leagues right now having scored 12 goals in 14 appearances since the World Cup. He’s 13/10 to net again today.
Aside from a 0-0 draw Man Utd have scored two or more in six of the last seven meetings and have racked up 21 goals in the last six fixtures going back to 2019. With Rashford on such superb goalscoring form the 4/5 on United to score two or more wouldn’t be the worst bet.
Later in the afternoon Manchester City surely won’t miss another chance to close the gap on the Gunners. It’s been a week of turmoil off the pitch for City but Pep Guardiola will be desperate to put last week’s 1-0 defeat at Spurs behind them. Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has never won against Guardiola (D4 L8) and that record’s unlikely to improve today.
City have recorded 12 consecutive home wins over Villa and have averaged 2.9 goals per game in the last 10 meetings overall. Erling Haaland’s 25 goals is the same tally as the entire Aston Villa side in the league to date so goals could the best method of attack for punters here rather than getting involved in City at 1/4.
Three or more Man City goals pays even money and they may need to score a few to win this one. Man City to win and both teams to score also appeals at 15/8.
