Today looks like last chance saloon for Arsenal if they’re to win the Premier League.
They’re hosts to Brighton this afternoon and all three points are imperative but they must hope that relegation-threatened Everton can do them a favour against Manchester City at 2pm.
With Chelsea (11th), Brighton (8th) and Brentford (10th) still to play, the Toffees look like the last team that City will face that have something meaningful to play for (especially if Arsenal beat Brighton today).
So it could be a pivotal afternoon at the top and bottom.
Both Leeds United and Nottingham Forest picked up a point yesterday so the pressure on Everton is even greater. They finish their season at Wolves, then at home to Bournemouth so will feel they’ve got a couple of opportunities to pick up points ahead of them in their attempt to escape the drop.
A stunning 5-1 win at Brighton means Sean Dyche’s men will have their tails up and let’s not forget they’ve already beaten Arsenal at Goodison this season. They’re 15/2 to pull off an upset today..
Pep Guardiola has some decisions to make ahead of City’s return leg against Real Madrid on Tuesday. He wasn’t happy that the Eurovision Song Contest, hosted in Liverpool last night, caused the game to be rescheduled to today, giving his squad even less time to recover.
City have won just six of their 16 away Premier League matches by more than one goal so it could pay to get onside with Everton on the Asian Handicap where they can be backed with +1.5 of a start at 1.850.
We should be in for an entertaining affair at the Emirates.
Previous meetings between Arsenal and Brighton this season have finished 1-3 and 4-2 so we should expect goals but that’s reflected in the 1/2 odds on there being Over 2.5 Goals. Over 1.5 First Half Goals might be a better option at 6/5.
The Gunners are 3/4 to win with Brighton at 16/5.
The Seagulls have had a strange run of form; a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest was followed by a 6-0 thumping of Wolves. They then avenged their FA Cup semi-final defeat with a last minute win over Manchester United, before a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Everton.
That inconsistency could cost them their dream of European football next season. They’ve a few games in hand on the teams above them but have a tough run-in. They don’t come much tougher than this afternoon at the Emirates against an Arsenal side determined to push Man City all the way.
Mikel Arteta’s men have won five of their last six league games at the Emirates (W5 D1), scoring at least three goals in each and a Gunners win with three or more goals in the game pays 11/8.
