Ange Postecoglou’s honeymoon period at Tottenham Hotspur has shown no sign of ending but it faces its toughest test this afternoon in the North London Derby against unbeaten Arsenal.
The Aussie supremo lost his first Glasgow Derby whilst Celtic were still adapting to his football philosophy but his Spurs squad have hit the ground running and lived up to Ange’s “we don’t stop” mantra with a sensational added time win over Sheffield United last weekend.
That means both sides go in to the game on 13 points and vying for second place in the table.
The Gunners are favourites to win at 4/6 but what statement it would be if Spurs could shoot down their old rivals on their own turf at 10/3, a tough ask when you consider they’ve won just two of 31 Premier League visits to Arsenal.
Either way it’s sure to be an entertaining affair and it’s no surprise to see Over 2.5 Goals priced up at just 1/2.
One way to tackle this one could be on the cards markets. Spurs have picked up 17 yellows in their first five matches (4-1-3-3-6), whilst Arsenal just eight.
They’re 6/5 to pick up four in what’s likely to be a highly competitive battle. Referee Rob Jones has averaged five cards per game this season and this is his first North London Derby.
A BetBuilder of Over 2.5 Goals & Over 2.5 Spurs Cards pays 23/20.
There won’t be many punters getting on Chelsea at 17/20 today. The Blues have won just once – against Premier League new boys Luton – and failed to score in their last two outings.
Visitors Aston Villa can go toe-to-toe with most teams but might suffer a European hangover after a 3-2 defeat in Poland on Thursday.
They’ve come up short at Newcastle and Liverpool but with 0.5 goals of a start on the Asian Handicap they could be some value at just over even money.
Barry Robson simply can’t afford another defeat for Aberdeen at Pittodrie. The Dons will have taken some encouragement despite defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt but the truth is they’re won just one game all season – a nervy 2-1 win over League One Stirling Albion.
Visitors Ross County have made a good start to the season, their only defeats coming against Celtic and Rangers.
However, Aberdeen at 1/1 looks very tempting and it’s about time they go things back on track.
Motherwell have an abysmal record at Ibrox and against Rangers in general but the travel to Govan in good shape under Stuart Kettlewell.
They’re third in the table, a point ahead of today’s opponents but they’re a massive 12/1 to pick up all three points.
Rangers still have key players out but they coped admirably in midweek with a win over Real Betis. They’re nowhere near top gear but should be good enough to leapfrog the Steelmen with a win.
The Gers have kept three clean sheets in five games so far and boast the best defensive record in the Premiership. A win to nil today pays 10/11.
