The relegation battle at the foot of the Premier League looks like it’s going to wire following Burnley’s defeat against Aston Villa yesterday.
Now it’s over to Everton and Leeds to try to make their move away from the drop zone. Both face tricky assignments this afternoon with away matches at Leicester City and Arsenal respectively.
The Toffees scored a much-needed win last weekend clinging on to a 1-0 victory over 3rd placed Chelsea and they could be the most likely to make some headway this afternoon.
Hosts Leicester bowed out of the Europa Conference League in midweek and their season looks like it’s going to fizzle out in mid-table. The Foxes have failed to win any of their last six matches and they’ve won just four of 11 in the league this year – all against teams below them.
Everton must build on last week’s stoic performance but their away from is a major concern, in fact, it’s the worst in the Premiership, just one win in 16 is relegation form and if they’re to stay up it’s something they need to turn around. However, they could be worth backing today at 7/4 as their need is much greater than Leicester’s.
Arsenal looks like they’ve found their mojo again. Three wins in a row against three top 7 sides have given the Gunners renewed optimism that they can claim that fourth Champions League spot and that makes them a tough proposition for a Leeds United side desperate for points.
Jesse Marsch will be keen to put last week’s 4-0 defeat to Man City behind him and focus on the previous five matches where his side picked up 11 points. But those wins points came against the likes of Norwich, Watford, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Wolves with only the latter in the top half of the table, in fact they’ve failed to win a single point against teams in the top six in 10 attempts.
Arsenal are just 2/5 to win but they could also bag a couple of goals. Unfortunately, the BetBuilder of a home win and two or more Gunners goals pays just 8/13. Add in at least one first half strike for Arsenal to take it to a more backable 10/11.
At the other end of the table, Man City must bounce back from their midweek disappointment in Madrid. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and can’t afford any slip-ups or they’ll see a league title which seemed firmly in their grasp slip away too.
The Magpies are another side who have been in impressive form lately. 10 of their 11 wins have come since the turn of the year but they’ve barely laid a glove on any of the top six sides – a single point against Man Utd is the only one in 30 that they’ve won.
City are as short as 1/7 to win, highlighting the gulf in class between the sides, so look elsewhere for some value. That might come in the shape of Riyad Mahrez who has scored in each of his last five league starts at the Etihad Stadium, and netted in the Bernabeu on Wednesday. He’s 20/21 to get on the scoresheet in what should be a straightforward home win today.
