A dearth of games across Europe’s top flights this weekend has left us with a pretty dull Sunday.
So attention turns to the two games in the Championship this afternoon. Derby County don’t have their troubles to seek off the pitch but the club will have been boosted by the commitment displayed by boss Wayne Rooney who turned down the opportunity to speak to boyhood heroes Everton about their vacant managerial position.
Rooney has performed a minor miracle at Pride Park to keep the Rams in with a shout of staying up. If not for the points deduction they’d be 15th in the table and three points ahead of today’s opponents Birmingham City.
Brum lie 19th but are comfortably clear of the relegation zone despite having won just one in their last eight (W1 D3 L5) and are without a win away from home since October. By contrast, Derby have won their last three at home and have only been beaten twice at home – By QPR and Blackburn who are both currently in the top four.
Derby have confirmed a sell-out crowd will be in attendance as fans rally round the club in it’s hour of need. That could help swing things County’s way at 13/10.
Later in the afternoon Nottingham Forest have the chance to move in to the play-off places with a win at Cardiff City. The Tricky Trees delivered for our Super Single earlier in the week with a comfortable win over Barnsley and can do so again this afternoon.
They’ve been so impressive since Steve Cooper arrived and have genuine promotion aspirations. Cooper has presided over just three defeats in his 21 in charge and will fancy picking up another three points against the Bluebirds who are trying to avoid being drawn in to a relegation battle.
Forest have won on their last two visits to the Welsh capital and can make it three from three at a handy looking 13/8.
