After a pulsating win over Rangers on Wednesday that saw them go top of the table Celtic must follow that up with a win Fir Park this afternoon.
Having trailed Rangers for the best part of 18 months it’s now the Hoops turn to set the pace and a victory at Motherwell would see them move four points clear before Rangers clash with Hearts later in the afternoon.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have now tasted defeat just once in their last 24 outings – that a late collapse in Leverkusen – and have won a hugely impressive 15 of their 17 since that Europa League loss. At 3/10 to win they won’t make you rich but should be a solid addition to any acca.
As ever we turn to the corners market for an angle when Celtic are in action. They racked up a 10 to 2 corner count against Rangers, maintaining their average of 10 per game in the Premiership. They’re 4/5 at Bet365 to win Over 7.5 today.
Another feature of Celtic’s matches is their aptitude for starting games quickly. They’ve scored 30 first half goals, compared to 20 second half goals so far and have scored two or more first half goals in four of their last five. That also plays in to the corner stats and Bet365 go 4/5 on Celtic winning Over 3.5 first half corners which feels more than doable.
Things could be a little less predictable at Ibrox. Giovanni Van Bronckhurst has found himself under pressure from sections of the Rangers fans following the manner of their defeat at Celtic Park so they’ll be expecting to see a reaction from their side.
But Hearts is as tough as it comes and they’ll be out to frustrate the home crowd. The Jambos nicked a point on their last visit to Ibrox and will be confident they can repel the Rangers attack, while trying to score on the counter. Robbie Neilson’s side actually have a better defencive record than the Gers now so it’ll be no surprise if this is a low-scoring affair.
No goal before the 28th minute is 5/6 (Bet365) while a goalless first half is 2/1.
In England Nottingham Forest will be eyeing another Premier League scalp at the City Ground. Arsenal were the victims in the last round of the FA Cup and this time it’s Leicester City who must try to overcome the in-form Championship side.
The Foxes’ defensive record has been abysmal this season, keeping just three clean sheets in 20 in the league, and none away from home so a Forest goal appeals but it’s priced at just 2/5! Instead look to the total goals market where it’s 4/5 on Over 2.5.
Liverpool and Bournemouth shouldn’t be too troubled in their FA Cup ties but are too short a price to get involved.
In the evening there’s the small matter of Mane v Salah in the African Cup of Nations final. In a tournament that’s failed to capture the imagination it looks destined for the finale to be decided on penalties which is just 3/1, or take your pick on either side winning it from a shoot-out; Senegal 13/2 or Egypt 7/1.
