Newcastle went toe-to-toe with champions Manchester City last week proving their credentials that they’ll be a force to be reckoned with at the top end of the table this season.
They’ve lost just four times this calendar year (including defeats to Liverpool and Man City) and they’ve made an unbeaten start to the new campaign.
They’ve added the exciting Alexander Isak who joined in a record deal for the club and he could make his debut at Molineux today. He gives them another option going forward and the Magpies look a good option at 17/10 to beat a Wolves side who find themselves in the bottom three of the table.
Goals are still a problem for shot-shy Wolves. They scored just 38 last season (4th lowest) and have found the net just once in their opening three games, so if Eddie Howe’s side can get their noses in front they’ll be in pole position to take all three points.
In Scotland the last thing Dundee Utd is a visit from champions, Celtic. Jack Ross’ side have conceded 14 goals in their last three games and it’s hard to know if the recent 7-0 thumping from AZ was more embarassing than the 3-0 defeat at home to St Mirren last week?
It could be another long 90 minutes for the Arabs against a Celtic side who have made a 100% start to the season. The Hoops squad will be buzzing after landing the plum tie of the Champions League group stages against Real Madrid and with Rangers visiting Celtic Park next Saturday there’s plenty motivation for players to stake a claim for a starting position in the coming weeks.
The Celts drew on their last visit to Tannadice but that can be discounted since it was enough on the night to clinch the league title. This time round there’ll be no slacking off. Ange Postecoglou seemed a little frustrated after last week’s 2-0 win over Hearts so expect the Hoops to be on the ball from the off at lunchtime.
An early goal can’t be ruled out, Celtic have scored their first goals in the 3rd, 48th, 7th and 13th minute so far. A goal before the 23rd minute pays 5/6.
But total goals feels like it could be the best play. Celtic usually pepper the opposition goal with shots and have racked up 21, 23, 20, 15 shots in their four Premiership games to date resulting in 9, 7, 11, 7 attempts on target. If they can convert those at decent rate they should run out comfortable winners. Over 2.5 goals pays 8/11. Combine this with Celtic to be winning at half-time and full-time for an 11/10 BetBuilder.
A small interest in Over 4.5 Celtic goals at 9/2 could be worth a play too.
Hearts suffered a painful defeat to FC Zurich in midweek but should bounce back with a win over St Johnstone at Tynecastle. The Jambos are clearly best of the rest in Scotland and look a solid shout at 3/5 against a St Johnstone side, who, like Wolves, simply don’t score enough goals.
Inspired by this week’s Gambla Betting Podcast give Rosenborg some consideration at Tromso this evening. They’re in terrific form in Eliteserien, losing just one of their last 14 and look overpriced at 13/8 in fixture where they’ve won five of the last six encounters. They’re also 6/5 to score two or more which might be safer option
