The Bookies were laughing all the way to the bank yesterday as several short priced favourites came a cropper.
Man City’s stalemate with Southampton was the biggest loser for punters after Pep’s side went off around 1/8. In the championship top-of-the-table Fulham were as short as 1/3 to win at home to Reading but lost 2-1, second-placed West Brom also failed to win and in Scotland Hibs (4/7) lost a late equaliser to St Mirren and unbeaten Inverness were held at struggling Dunfermline. Well done to anyone that managed a winning line!
One piece of good news was Mr Fixit’s beloved Clydebank’s 7-0 win over Dalkieth in the Scottish Cup. It was the Bankies’ first match in the competition in 20 years and Paul’s wife Linda (and ‘the dug’ Millie) was in attendance at Holm Park.No news yet from the bookies on a price for Clydebank to win the cup!!
Match of the Day on Sunday is in north London where Spurs host Chelsea. Tottenham slipped from top of the table to seventh following a 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace and face a tough test against the Blues who have made an unbeaten start to the season and could go top with a three goal win.
The match pitches two of the best strikers in league against each other. Romelu Lukaku is favourite to score at 1/1 with Harry Kane at 7/4.
After seeing Palace expose Spurs last week punter will be keen to back Chelsea at odds of 3/4 with SBK.
Man Utd have also made a good start to the league season but came undone against Young Boys in midweek. Opponents West Ham are one of four sides that remain unbeaten but the loss of Michael Antonio through suspension is a huge blow otherwsie the 19/5 would make more appeal.
In Scotland, the Dundee Derby kicks things off at noon. Dundee United have made the better start to the season but it could pay to back both teams to score at Tannadice despite both sides struggling in front of goal. BTTS has landed in eight of the last nine meetings and Dundee have added plenty of firepower to their squad, including Leigh Griffiths on loan from Celtic.
Both Celtic and Rangers return to action following midweek Eruopean defeats. Livingston often prove a bit of a banana skin for the Hoops but they’ve endured a difficult start to the season and prop up the table. Celtic have a few players still missing trhough injury but should get the job done.
On the corners market Celtic have wiped the floor with opposition lately and the best bet at the Toni Macaroni Stadium could be to side with the Bhoys -2 on the Corner Handicap at 21/20 with Bet365.
It’ll be a day of celebration at Ibrox as the league champions flag is unfurled and Motherwell will be aiming to spoil the party. Well are up in to fourth in the table after three wins on the bounce and could go top with a win. The Gers aren’t as watertight at the back as they were last term and while the Steelmen may not win they’re capable of scoring at 11/10.
