The city of Manchester will stand still at 2pm this afternoon for the 188th Manchester Derby, live on Sky Sports from the Etihad Arena.
United may have won significantly more meetings between the sides – 20 in fact – but their noisy neighbours are closing the gap and look likely to reduce the all-time deficit further today when the sides clash in the Premier League.
City’s goal-machine Erling Haaland has the opportunity to set his own unique record by becoming the first player to score three consecutive home hat-tricks in the Premier League. You can have 9/1 on the Norwegian re-writing the history books yet again.
At the other end of the pitch, Ronaldo will be aiming to claim his own piece of history. He’s currently on 699 club goals in a remarkable career. His Manchester Derby record is a bit patchy though; four goals and two red cards in 12 appearances. The fact that he might not be in the starting XI is reflected in the 12/5 available on him finding the net. A Ronaldo hat-trick? That’s 100/1.
As for the match itself, City are clear favourites at 4/11. However, United have won three of their last four visits to the Etihad so they can’t be completely discounted at 6/1.
After losing their opening two games, Erik ten Hag’s side have bounced back well with wins over Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal. That said, if Pep’s side turn up they should win. Despite the Gunners currently leading the table at the moment City remain the team they’ll all need to measure up to.
There’s potentially a few angles of attack to get onside with the champions. Backing them to leading at half-time and full-time pays a respectable 11/10 at SBK – something City have done in four of their seven matches so far.
A half-time Manchester City lead can be best backed on the Asian Handicap where they’re 1.825 at -0.5.
A Man City win combined with over two City goals also appeals at even money. Haaland is the big game-changer here. His ability to find the back of the net virtually guarantee’s goals for Guardiola’s men so three or more isn’t out of the question.
In Europe Atalanta catch the eye at 21/20 to win at home to Fiorentina. The Bergamo side don’t have Europe to contend with this season and are unbeaten after seven in Serie A. The visitors have a trip to Tyencastle coming up this week in the Europa Conference League, but have won just one of their last nine so look vulnerable away from home today.
