Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to maintain their recent run of good form when they play host to Newcastle United on Sunday, while there are also big games involving Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Spurs’ Premier League campaign started in disappointing fashion as they lost 1-0 at home to Everton but Jose Mourinho’s men bounced back with a 5-2 thumping of Southampton at St Mary’s.
Tottenham recorded Europa League qualifying victories either side of that Saints success, overcoming Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Shkendija, and the three-game winning run has instilled some much-needed confidence throughout the squad.
As for Newcastle, it has been a mixed bag from Steve Bruce’s side so far this season, with a 2-0 league victory at West Ham on the opening day followed by a 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Blackburn.
The Magpies came unstuck against Brighton last Sunday, going down 3-0 at St James’ Park, but the north-east outfit hit back with a 7-0 thumping of Morecambe in the cup – the club’s biggest away victory ever.
Still, Newcastle have struggled to maintain any real consistency and the Tottenham victory at 10/23 looks difficult to argue with, while the win to nil is also tempting at 13/10.
City Face Another Stern Test
Having overcome Wolves 3-1 in their season opener, Manchester City face another acid test on Sunday when they welcome Leicester City to the Etihad Stadium for a 16:30 KO.
The Citizens are without strike duo Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus, meaning Raheem Sterling is likely to start through the middle, while defender Aymeric Laporte is not fully fit after only recently returning to training following a period of self-isolation.
Leicester have won both of their league matches to suggest they can mount a stronger title challenge this term but they have lost four successive league games at the Etihad Stadium, their longest losing streak at City since a run of five defeats in 1961.
City should have enough in the tank to clinch all three points but with the Foxes possessing plenty of attacking threat, including Jamie Vardy, the home win and both teams to score could be the route to go down at 6/5.
Hammers to Endure More Misery
It has not been a great start to the season for West Ham, who have lost both league matches to Newcastle and Arsenal, and life isn’t expected to get any easier when Wolves visit the London Stadium at 19:00 on Sunday.
The Hammers have struggled in the transfer market and although they thumped Hull City 5-1 in the Carabao Cup in midweek, there still seems to be a real lack of cutting edge when competing at the highest level.
In stark contrast, Wolves overcame Sheffield United 2-0 in their first game of the campaign before putting up a valiant effort against City when losing 3-1 at the Etihad.
Nuno Espirito Santo recently brought in right-back Nelson Semedo and his arrival is expected to allow Adama Traore, the speed king, to push higher up the pitch and form part of the front three.
Wolves have won four successive Premier League games against West Ham without conceding a goal and it is 47/20 for the away side to win to nil.
