Tottenham’s star duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min sealed their place in the history books after combining again in the final third of the pitch to defeat Leeds 4-0 on February 26.
Kane laid on a wonderful assist for Son to slot home, putting Tottenham 3-0 up at Elland Road, taking the pair’s goal combinations in the Premier League to 37.
That tally puts them at the top of the table in terms of goal combinations in the top-flight, moving one clear of Chelsea pair Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.
Spurs academy product Kane made his senior debut for the club in 2011-12, but he had to wait until 2014-15 to become a regular fixture in the side.
He ended that campaign with a remarkable 31 goals across all competitions and he was soon to be boosted by the arrival of Son in the summer of 2015.
Tottenham parted with £22million to sign the South Korea international from Bayer Leverkusen and he has been a huge asset to the north London outfit.
Son has netted 81 times in the Premier League, while he’s also laid on 44 assists after striking up a superb partnership with Kane.
Their relationship really blossomed in 2020-21 when they set the record for the most goal combinations in a single campaign – 14.
Former Blackburn forwards Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton had held the record after combining on 13 occasions in Rovers’ famous title-winning campaign in 1994-95.
Sowmewhat surprisingly, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson are third on that list for single-season combinations, linking up 12 times for Bournemouth in 2018-19.
Chelsea Duo Deliver Silverware
Although Kane and Son can proudly boast the record for most goal combinations, they don’t have any silverware to show for their efforts.
The same can’t be said for Drogba and Lampard, who now sit second on the list after starring for Chelsea.
Lampard had already proven his ability as a goalscoring midfielder at West Ham before Chelsea handed over £11million to take him to Stamford Bridge.
The box-to-box midfielder went on to become the club’s all-time leading scorer, netting 211 goals across all competitions and he was the perfect partner for Drogba.
The Ivorian arrived in west London in 2004 and he notched 164 goals across two stints with the Blues.
By the time Lampard departed in 2014, the pair had 36 goal combinations but they had also helped Chelsea to win three league titles.
Lampard assisted Drogba on 24 occasions with the former Marseille man returning the favour 12 times.
City Icons Sit Third
Sergio Aguero and David Silva are third on the list for overall goal combinations, linking up 29 times during their time at Manchester City.
Silva joined City just a year before Aguero as they started to splash the cash and the pair proved well worth the investment.
It really was a match made in heaven when Silva’s magical playmaking skills combined with Aguero’s potency in the box.
Indeed, Aguero stands as the fourth-highest scorer in Premier League history and also tops the goalscoring charts for Manchester City.
They lifted four league titles during a hugely successful period for the Citizens before Silva departed in 2020.
