THE Premiership has gone into cold storage for a few weeks and it gives us all a welcome break from VAR controversies.
With the big boys heading to sunnier climes for training, the only time replays will be pored over is to work out who tipped the gaffer from his sun lounger into the swimming pool.
And if that happens at the Rangers hotel in Spain, it will be interesting to see if Ibrox chiefs demand the audio be released so they can work out who gave the order for Philippe Clement to be plunged into the deep end while smearing sun cream on his napper.
It’s all about the lower leagues for the next two weekends and top-flight fans with withdrawal symptoms could do a lot worse than head to their nearest Championship ground.
The second tier was by far the most competitive league in Scotland last term, summed up by the fact all but one of the 10 clubs had something to play for heading into the final round of fixtures.
It’s shaping up to be just as tight this time around and there always seems to be plenty of drama, with nobody offering better box-office value than Arbroath in recent weeks.
After an on-field scrap with team-mate Jermain Hylton saw striker Jay Bird pick up a red card, the Red Lichties produced an even better story just days later as sub keeper Ally Adams stepped off to bench to play up front and smashed home a 30-yarder at Stark’s Park.
Quite how they top that today at Firhill remains to be seen. I’m hoping they bring back Dick Campbell as a trialist, stick him on for the final few minutes and the septuagenarian nods home a winner with his bunnet.
You’d get astronomical odds on that and even a Red Licthies victory is pretty hefty at 17/4 with McBookie.
The Jags are unbeaten in six at home and have been scoring freely so I like the 13/10 the same firm offer on Thistle to be winning at half-time and full-time.
Raith continue to lead the way after sealing a 2-1 derby win over Dunfermline.
Their unbeaten run now stretches to 16 games but today they face the team who last inflicted defeat on them back in September – Airdrie.
The Diamonds have come through a sticky spell and head into this one on the back of two wins and a draw.
Both managers play on the front foot so it bodes well for a few thrills and combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals pays 11/10 at Bet365. Dundee United are matching Rovers stride for stride and sit
just three points behind having played a game fewer.
They host in-form Morton today and I fancy a few corners. Over 10 match flag kicks is 10/11 at Bet365 while the same firm price over five first-half corners at 13/10.
Inverness head to Ayr in the other Championship game and it’s two teams in pretty dismal form.
That half-time draw looks the best option and it’s 6/5 at McBookie.
It’s hard to see Falkirk’s unbeaten run in League One coming to an end when Queen of the South visit today.
The Doonhamers have found a bit of form, with three wins and a draw in their last four, but have still been conceding goals.
Falkirk have scored three or more in their last three outings so I fancy over 3.5 goals here at 13/10 (BetVictor).
Clyde are six points adrift at the foot of League Two and now host a Bonnyrigg side who won 3-0 at East Fife on their last road trip. Rose look good value at 23/20 with McBookie to win.
Super singles
- BTTS and over 2.5 goals at Airdrie (11/10, Bet365)
- Bonnyrigg to win (23/20, McBookie)
- Over five 1st half corners at Tannadice (13/10, Bet365)
- HT draw at Ayr (6/5, McBookie)
