Damian says: “The league action returns this weekend after the international break and hopefully I can pick up where I left off after tipping 13-2 winner Greig Spence in the last column in a game where I said Stenhousemuir were one of the bets of the season at 9-4.
“The way I find my bets is to look at the fixtures on the SPFL site and price the games up myself then go to find the ‘real’ prices the bookies offer and look for any big differences.
“I usually price my games up to 110 per cent and if you don’t know how odds percentages work there are lots of sites and tools on the internet to help you. And I am going to start this week’s column where I ended the last one by tipping Stenhousemuir.
“The bookies know very little about League Two football in Scotland and if you look at the outright betting for this division you will see McBookie have the Warriors as 5-1 second favourites but seven of the nine firms on Oddschecker have them at double-figure odds and one firm is 14-1 and another 16-1.
“I just don’t see how they can be that price and as a result they are 20-21 (they were much bigger) to win at home to Annan Athletic who are 100-1 to win the league.
“Returning to the way I find my bets I had Stenny at 1-2 for this game so the 20-21 makes them an unbelievably good bet to my eyes.
“You rarely get such big differences but until the bookies catch on I suspect Stenhousemuir will be great value for some weeks to come.
“And because of this Spence continues to be the best-value first scorer bet in the SPFL and is 9-2 with McBookie to score the opener again.
“The fixture list has produced some cracking games none more so than the Falkirk v Cove Rangers clash in League One.
“The pair share title favouritism at 13-8 and both are unbeaten after four league games with Cove taking the maximum 12 points from theirs.
“The table doesn’t tell the whole story though as Rangers have played three of their games at the Balmoral Stadium.
“They face their toughest challenge of the season with a trip to Falkirk, which comes just days after the Bairns thrashed Dumbarton 4-0 away in the League Cup. I’d have Falkirk odds on for this and yet they are 11-10 with McBookie.
“Callumn Morrison scored two of Falkirk’s goals in midweek taking his tally to four from seven games in all competitions and is 15-2 with McBookie to improve that record with the opening goal.
“In the Championship I fail to be convinced Dundee will emerge as the most likely title challengers to Hearts despite most bookmakers having them as clear second favourites.
“Dundee have taken just five points from their first five league games and included in that was a 6-2 thrashing by Hearts and a 3-3 draw at Alloa.
“Their sole win was 1-0 at home to Morton who were down to 10 men for the last 20 minutes.
“On Saturday they travel to face Ayr who have the same number of points-from-games tally as the Dee.
“With the Honest Men 19-10 outsiders I am willing to take on Dundee who are just 13-10.
“I am going to take a chance with midfielder Luke McCowan who has scored on two occasions this season for Ayr United, including in midweek. McBookie make him 15-2 to score the first goal of the game.”
