THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie.
McBookie’s Damian Walker is back with his first-scorer tips and he’s also challenging punters to pick their own.
Every week one person with a correct prediction will be chosen at random to win a £10 bet – and if you backed your tip with McBookie with at least a fiver they’ll double the prize to £20.
You can comment with your pick here and give any reasoning but to enter the contest you have to email mrfixit@dailyrecord.co.uk.
Quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only – for a chance to win.
Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections.
He says: “We’re off again for another fantastic season of SPFL football and there has already been a huge gamble on League Two newcomers Cove Rangers.
“McBookie went shortest in the antepost betting about the Aberdeenshire side promoted from the Highland League and through play-offs but punters still backed them into 6-4 title favourites.
“Edinburgh City had been the original market leaders but are out to 7-2 second favourites. We will very quickly get an idea of the pair’s title credentials as they meet at the Balmoral Stadium on the opening day of the season.
“I must admit I would like to see a bit more about Cove in the league before taking 11-8 about them beating Edinburgh City who only faded out of title contention in the final weeks of last season.
“For my money the 9-5 about the Citizens represents some good value and as a result their top scorer from last season and the League Two top marksman overall, Blair Henderson, looks a decent price at 7-2 to score first.
“Henderson was missing from Edinburgh City’s opening League Cup games but came on as a late sub against East Kilbride before scoring coming off the bench against Albion Rovers. Now tthe league action gets underway, I would expect him to start and get off to a flyer.
“In the Premiership I have been impressed with the early performances and signings of Motherwell, especially their 4-0 win over Morton in front of the BT Sport cameras in the League Cup. Well won all four of their League Cup matches – scoring 13 goals without conceding.
“It can be dangerous to take this early-season form at face value but I have backed the 6-4 about Motherwell finishing in the top six in the Premiership.
“If they are to do that they must win games like their opening one which is a trip to Livingston. Bookies make Livi favourites but I would have the visitors as market leaders and think they rate decent value at 7-4.
“Liam Donnelly has mostly played in central defence or right-back during his time at Motherwell but boss Stephen Robinson has played him in a new midfield role this season.
“And in the three matches he has played to date Donnelly has scored in them all, including two in his last game. McBookie make Donnelly a 10-1 chance to score first on Saturday.
“The final selection is in the Championship, where I also think the bookies have got the wrong favourite. Newly-promoted champions Arbroath are 13-10 to win at home to Queen of the South who are 2-1 outsiders.
“The Red Lichties are going to find life a lot harder this season and only won two of their last 11 games in League One last season.
“They came up against Alloa last week in the League Cup but went down 3-2 to the Wasps despite home advantage and I would expect Stephen Dobbie and his Queen of the South side to find plenty of holes in Arbroath’s defence.
“Dobbie did this column numerous favours last season with his goalscoring exploits and he is 10-3 with McBookie to score the opening goal on Saturday.
