THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie.
McBookie’s Damian Walker is back with his first-scorer tips and he’s also challenging punters to pick their own.
Every week one person with a correct prediction will be chosen at random to win a £10 bet – and if you backed your tip with McBookie with at least a fiver they’ll double the prize to £20.
You can comment with your pick here and give any reasoning but to enter the contest you have to email mrfixit@dailyrecord.co.uk. There were no winners last week.
Quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish league games only – for a chance to win.
Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections.
He says: “Liam Henderson gave me nice 12-1 winner last Saturday so hopefully more of the same this weekend.
“The month of January is one I like when betting on Scottish football as there can be dramatic changes in personnel as teams sign and offload players.
“I have pointed out in previous seasons there are great opportunities to take on teams that might have lost a lot of their best players and likewise get behind sides that have made big improvements.
“It’s early days yet and when we get a full SPFL programme next weekend I expect to have some decent bets.
“As for this weekend and on current form Annan Athletic are looking like a side to take on despite them being nicely placed in the League Two table.
“The Galabankies are in the unusual position of occupying fourth spot yet possess a -11 goal difference.
“That poor goals record has not been helped by their recent form which has seen Annan ship 15 goals in the last five games at an average of three per match.
“Not surprisingly they have lost four of those five games yet are 6-4 for the visit of Stirling Albion to Galabank.
“The Binos are four points behind Annan with a game in hand and have won three of their last four games on the road, including their last two matches.
“They have also conceded just one goal in their last four-and-a-half hours of football so 6-4 looks a very decent price about them.
“Darryl Duffy is on loan at Stirling from Airdrie and has come good in recent games with five goals from his last six games. He is also on the pens for the Binos and is 6-1 with McBookie to score the opening goal.
“In the Scottish Cup I expect Motherwell to be heavily backed to win away at Dundee as their current price of 3/4 surely can’t last.
“Regular readers will know Well were my Premiership team to follow at the start of the season outside the big two and they haven’t disappointed and sit third in the table.
“Motherwell have won five of their last seven Premiership games, with a loss to Rangers in that period, so a trip to Dens Park to face a Dundee side that have lost seven of their 20 Championship games will hold no fears.
“Dundee are priced at 10-3 for this game but really ought to be more like 6-1 shots in my book.
“Finding a Motherwell first scorer is a little tricky as the goals have tended to be shared around this season but I’ll take a chance on young, striker Chris Long who has netted six times this campaign. McBookie make him 9-2 to score the opening goal of the game.
“Staying in the Cup and Dundee’s other side, United, will also come a cropper against Premiership opposition, namely Hibs.
“Dundee United are 1-66 shots to win the Championship title this season and have done nothing wrong but odds of 19-10 about them at home to Hibs look too short.
“My biggest issue is the quality of opposition in the Championship this season. All the sides bar United have lost at least seven of their 20 league matches.
“That is no fault of the Arabs as they can only beat what is put in front of them but I feel there is a big gulf between the overall standard of the Championship and the Premiership.
“Hibs at 13-10 look a decent bet to me. Striker Martin Boyle has two braces to his name from his last five outings and is the selection to score the game’s first goal at 5-1 with McBookie.”
Recommended Bets
- Duffy (Stirling) 6-1
- Long (Motherwell) 9-2 – 7.20pm
- Boyle (Hibs) 5-1 – Sunday
