THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie.
McBookie’s Damian Walker is back with his first-scorer tips and he’s also challenging punters to pick their own.
Every week one person with a correct prediction will be chosen at random to win a £10 bet – and if you backed your tip with McBookie with at least a fiver they’ll double the prize to £20.
You can comment with your pick here and give any reasoning but to enter the contest you have to email mrfixit@dailyrecord.co.uk.
Quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish league games only – for a chance to win. Last week’s winner was Alan McKinlay who was one of many to go with Dunfermline’s Kevin Nisbet.
Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections.
He says: “It was rub your eyes time when I first looked at the odds for the Falkirk v Raith Rovers game this week.
“The visitors sit on top of the League One table with 31 points having just ended second-placed Airdrie’s winning run of six games last weekend.
“Added to that Raith have not conceded a goal in six hours of football while Falkirk have won just one of their last four league games and trail them by four points. So how on earth the Bairns can be 13-20 favourites and the Rovers 16-5 outsiders?
“And because of the distorted match odds a first scorer for the visitors is at inflated odds. I mentioned him in an earlier column and surely 17-year-old striker Kieron Bowie’s future will lie a good bit higher than in League One.
“He has already scored eight times this season and been the first scorer in the game on six of those occasions. Yet he can be backed at 15-2 with McBookie to make it seven first goals.
“Staying in League One and Montrose have had a bit of a Jekyll & Hide season. They played like the unpleasant Mr Hyde for the first part of the season by losing six of their first seven league games and drawing the other.
“But since then they have been Dr Jekyll-like winning seven of their next nine league games, drawing one and losing the other.
“So it is surprising to see them priced at odds of 5-4 at home to Clyde who haven’t won in their last five league games.
“I would have the Gable Endies odds on for this which means there ought to be a value first-scorer bet out there.
“Montrose midfielder Graham Webster scored five goals in five games from the end of September through to November but since then has had blanks from his last five games.
“Hopefully he can rediscover the scoring touch as he is priced at 8-1 to be the game’s first scorer with McBookie.
“Moving up a division into the Championship and Dunfermline are putting together a nice little run that has taken them up to third in the table.
“The Pars have won five of their last six league games and on Saturday travel to face a Dundee side who have lost three and drawn one of their last four matches.
“The bookies have Dunfermline as 19-10 outsiders which on current form looks decent. Pars striker Kevin Nisbet have really found his scoring touch of late with an incredible haul of 11 goals from his last six Championship games. Nisbet is 16-5 with McBookie to add to that tally with the first goal.”
