Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections.
He says: “I’m starting this week’s column in the Premiership and going for a resurgent Hibs under new boss Jack Ross.
“This column has always sung the praises of Ross as a manager from his time with Alloa and then his tenure at St Mirren.
“He joined Sunderland in May 2018 after two successive seasons of relegation and the following season took them to a play-off final where they were cruelly eliminated by a 90th-minute winner.
“Ross was sacked this season on October 8 with the club sitting sixth in the table. That seemed an incredibly harsh decision and one Sunderland may regret given they are now 11th in the table and have won just two of their next 11 games and been dumped out of the FA Cup by Gillingham.
“The Scot joined Hibs on November 15 and the former defender’s organisational skills made an immediate impact with back-to-back wins over Motherwell and St Mirren.
“I would expect the improvement to continue in the coming weeks and months and Hibs will be on my list of teams to back. On Saturday they entertain Kilmarnock and I am happy to take the 13-10 about the Hibees.
“Striker Christian Doidge has finally hit form, having scored just two goals from his first 15 matches this season he has netted five times from his last three matches.
“A rejuvenated Hibs with Doidge back scoring could be bad news for Killie and the Welshman is 4-1 with McBookie to open the scoring.
“In the Championship I just cannot get a handle on Inverness Caley Thistle but one thing I do know is they have trouble scoring goals.
“Caley have scored just one goal in their last six hours of football, albeit the winner in their away game with Dundee last weekend.
“Even so I odds of 4-6 about them winning away at Alloa look very poor, especially as the home side beat Dunfermline in their last home league game and drew 2-2 away to ICT in mid-October.
“So 4-1 about the Wasps looks at least a point-and-a-half too big to these eyes. Alloa striker Alan Trouten has already had a good season in front of goal, scoring 10 times from 20 appearances, including five from his last seven matches. Trouten is 9-2 with McBookie to be the game’s first goalscorer.
“And I am staying in the Championship for my final selection where there is another over-priced team in my opinion.
“As a kid playing away football matches for the school football team you could always rely on three or four boys to lose their breakfast on a long, coach journey.
“Morton seem to have a similar problem this season as they have played seven and lost seven in the Championship when on the road – scoring four and conceding 21 goals!
“But they have been a different proposition at home taking 16 points out of a possible 21. On Saturday they entertain runaway league leaders Dundee United who have a fantastic home record with seven wins from seven.
“Free-scoring at home with an average of three goals a game, United have scored just nine from seven away games and lost three times.
“They are without injured top scorer Lawrence Shankland and this game sets up nicely and 17-4 looks too big about Morton. Striker Bob McHugh has scored nine times from 19 games and is 11-2 with McBookie to score first.”
