He says: “It is the League Cup semi-finals this weekend and Rangers couldn’t have picked a better time to be meeting Hearts.
“The Jambos sacked Craig Levein on Thursday following a dismal start to the season that has seen them win just one of their 11 Premiership matches amassing just eight points.
“Rangers, on the other hand, put in an impressive performance in midweek in front of the BT Sport cameras to thrash Ross County 4-0 in a game that probably even flattered the home side so dominant were Rangers.
“I just can’t see Hearts getting anything out of this game even with a possible bounce from the Levein exit.
“Ryan Jack was the star of the show on Wednesday evening, dominating midfield and scoring two carbon-copy goals. I expected to see Jack at single-figure odds to open the scoring in Sunday’s game but McBookie offer 14-1 about him doing so.
“In the Championship the first and third favourites in the title betting clash on Saturday with Inverness Caley Thistle hosting market leaders Dundee United. Bookies have the visitors as favourites but I fancy a win for ICT at odds of 19-10.
“Dundee United have not been at their best recently and after back-to-back losses away to Alloa and Queen of the South where they failed to score they turned things around with a couple of home wins.
“A closer look at those games suggests the Arabs might have been flattered to win both matches. They had 45% and 47% possession in both games and scored three goals from a total five shots on target. Both visiting teams had considerably more shots on target and corners.
“Now stats don’t mean everything but for me the jury is still out on Dundee United and I wouldn’t go anywhere near their title of odds of 1-2.
“Bulgarian striker Nikolay Todorov scored the second goal in Caley’s 2-0 win at QoS in midweek and has five to his name this season. He is 7-1 with McBookie to be the game’s first goalscorer.
“I said last week Peterhead were now my main fancies for the automatic drop in League One and they subsequently lost their fourth straight game on the bounce.
“The Blue Toon have scored just a solitary goal in their last four-and-half hours of football and ace striker Rory McAllister drew yet another blank and has just one goal this season from 12 appearances.
“On Saturday Peterhead entertain joint leaders Raith Rovers and I really do fancy the visitors to run riot.
“The Rovers have scored 25 goals from their 11 league games while Peterhead have conceded 21 from the same number of matches.
“It is not often I tip odds-on shots but at 8-11 Raith still look good value as I my book they should be 4-9 shots.
“I am not concerned Rovers have drawn their last three games as they were against the three best sides in the division in my opinion.
“And I am going to tip the youngest first scorer in this column by going for 17-year-old Kieron Bowie.
“The striker has scored five goals already this season from 15 appearances – many as a substitute – and two goals from his last three games.
“Bowie’s performances have attracted the interest of Hearts and his Golden Years as a footballer will almost certainly will lie at a higher level than in League One.
“In the meantime he can be the star man for Raith and his goals may help them towards the league title. McBookie make him 5-1 to score the first goal of the game.”
