Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections. He says: “It is International weekend so we are down to a handful of all-SPFL Challenge Cup games and a League One fixture to go at.
“And it is in League One where I am going to start this weekend. Last Saturday I took on Forfar Athletic at home against 3-1 shots Clyde and they played out a goalless draw.
“The Loons have now scored a solitary goal in four and a half hours of football and are without a win in four games.
“I don’t see why they should be 23-20 favourites at home to East Fife who have just beaten Raith Rovers 4-2 last weekend and thrashed Airdrie 4-1 – the second and third favourites for the title at the start of the season.
“East Fife are unbeaten in four League One matches and on recent form this looks a much tighter game than the odds suggest. Striker Ryan Wallace had a terrific goals-to-games record when at Arbroath, with 19 goals from 42 games.
“He joined East Fife on a free transfer in the summer and has already scored two league goals from four matches this season, including one against Raith last Saturday. Wallace is a generous-looking 7-1 with McBookie to open the scoring against Forfar.
“Trying to second guess team selections for the Tunnocks Challenge Cup is a huge part of finding value in this competition and it was a case in point last season when Ross County fielded their No.1 squad and won the trophy while Dundee United, who played their development squad, went out at this stage.
“I just have a sneaky feeling Dundee may look to play a lot of their reserve squad with surely promotion to the Premiership their number one priority.
“Visitors Elgin on the other hand seem likely to play their first team and with striker Shane Sutherland in a rich vein of scoring form since his return from Peterhead they could be some value to score first tomorrow. Sutherland has played in 11 games this season and score 11 goals.
“That is some record and he is 9-1 with McBookie to open the scoring. I would just check the starting XI an hour before kick-off to confirm team strength.
“Staying in the Tunnock’s Challenge Cup and the goals have dried up for Queen of the South who have one strike in their last six hours of football.
“Last Saturday was a case in point, when they failed to score in a 1-0 home defeat to pre-season relegation favourites Alloa.
“What is even worse about that game is the Doonhamers failed to register even a single shot on goal. On Saturday they travel to face League One Clyde and on current form I wouldn’t go anywhere near their quote of 11-10.
“As I mentioned last Saturday Clyde have started brightly this season despite having had to play the first three favourites in the league in their opening four league fixtures. They probably should have won last weekend at Forfar when the home side failed to register a shot on goal.
“David Goodwillie is the man for goals at Clyde and he is our pick once again this weekend at 9-2 with McBookie to open the scoring.
