THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie.
McBookie’s Damian Walker is back with his first-scorer tips and he’s also challenging punters to pick their own.
Every week one person with a correct prediction will be chosen at random to win a £10 bet – and if you backed your tip with McBookie with at least a fiver they’ll double the prize to £20.
You can comment with your pick here and give any reasoning but to enter the contest you have to email mrfixit@dailyrecord.co.uk.
Quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only – for a chance to win. Last week’s winner will be picked later when I check the entries.
Here is Damian with this weekend’s selections. He says: “Big outsiders Motherwell and Albion Rovers both scored the opening goal in their matches last weekend but sadly not the Motherwell and Albion Rovers scorers I tipped here!
“At the start of the season I suggested Dumbarton would have a long season ahead of them and nothing I have seen to date changes that opinion.
“The Sons won their opening League Cup fixture 1-0 against League Two Annan Athletic but since then have lost their next six games, including a 6-0 thrashing away to Falkirk and a 1-0 home defeat to the St Mirren Colts.
“The goals for and against column does not look good for Dumbarton – just three goals in the positive column and 20 in the negative one.
“On Saturday they travel to face newly-promoted Peterhead and this game should tell us a lot about the season that may lie ahead of Dumbarton.
“Peterhead have performed with great credit already this campaign – drawing with Championship sides Inverness Caley Thistle and Dundee in the League Cup (and winning a bonus point in both games), plus they have drawn 0-0 at home to red-hot title favourites Falkirk on the opening day of the league season.
“I think Peterhead will have too much for Dumbarton and see them as strong favourites, not the 5-6 market leaders they currently are.
“Peterhead striker Rory McAllister had his first start in more than three weeks when playing against Formartine in midweek in the Tunnock’s Challenge Cup and I don’t need to explain his scoring exploits over the past few seasons here.
“McAllister will find plenty of holes in the Dumbarton defence and is 4-1 with McBookie to score the opening goal.
“In the League Cup there is one of those stand-out prices you sometimes get when teams meet quickly in two different competitions.
“So last weekend Hamilton beat Kilmarnock 2-0 in the Premiership. It was a game in which Accies led 2-0 before Brian Easton was sent off in the 54th minute.
“Not surprisingly Kilmarnock dominated possession after that but failed to change the scoreline. This Saturday the Accies travel to face Killie in the League Cup but just seven days after that 2-0 win they are 17-2 outsiders and the home side 1-2 favourites.
“That just can’t be right. So I’ll be going for a Hamilton first goalscorer.
“Ross Cunningham has had some season already, twice scoring a double from midfield in his first two games this season.
“This could be a real breakthrough season for the 21-year-old as he tries to nail down a permanent-starting position. McBookie make him 12-1 to score the first goal of the game.
“Finally, staying in the League Cup and I am not hugely taken with Partick Thistle’s squad this season and was surprised so many firms had them so short in their title betting. Thistle finished sixth in the Championship table with 43 points from their 36 games and with a minus nine goal difference. And with a handful of games left were right in the relegation dogfight.
“I don’t see much prospect of an improvement this season and think Saturday’s visitors Ross County look great value at odds-against of 6-5
“Billy Mckay has once again been the Staggies’ man for goals again this season and has scored four goals in six appearances already.
“Last season he finished with 20 goals from 34 games and that goals-to-games ration makes him our final first goal scorer selection at 4-1 with McBookie.
“Can you find a winner this weekend? Email your entry to mrfixit@dailyrecord.co.uk.”
