The freezing conditions continue to play havoc with racing’s schedule but there are no fears for Tuesday afternoon’s all-weather meeting at Southwell.

1.25 – Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap (5f)
Ex Joseph O’Brien inmate King Of Stars will give this another good go if getting to dictate things in front. He had Thegreatestshowman and Giogiobbo behind last week when deploying those tactics. He has though proved vulnerable when not getting things his own way and the others may be wise to that now. Thegreatestshowman has a good record here and finished well in third last week; if the likely market leader fails to fire, he’s very likely to be waiting in the wings.
Selection: Thegreatestshowman
1.55 – Betway Casino Handicap (6f)
Jazz Legend arrives here after a good C&D success 11 days ago, coming home with four lengths to spare on Archimedes. He’s gone up 7lb but must be a player on that running. Qaaraat won over 5f on the same card and is 4lb higher now. He might be vulnerable late on at this distance. SIR RODNEYREDBLOOD was in good form prior to his recent Lingfield effort where he went off all too fast under a claiming rider. The excellent Ben Curtis is up here and, with form on this surface, they can be major players if held on to for a late tilt.
Selection: Sir Rodneyredblood
2.25 – Bombardier British Hopped Amber Beer Handicap (7f)
Hard work ruling any of these out. Motawaafeq and Daafr arrive on the back of winning efforts here this month on their most recent starts, but both will carry 5lb penalties for their respective wins. LUSCIFER could be the answer for Tony Carroll. His form towards the end of 2020 was excellent, with three wins in his last five (two here). He ran into some in-form rivals in a stronger grade here at the start of the month and should find this more to his liking. He’s just 1lb above his last win-mark and is 2-3 previously under Ben Curtis, who returns in the saddle now.
Selection: Luscifer
2.55 – Bombardier March To Your Own Drum Handicap (1m)
Maykir came up just shy in pursuit of a C&D hat-trick nine days ago and should continue to go well, while International Law has been knocking on the door through the winter on the all-weather circuit and will have claims if taking to this surface first time. DEB’S DELIGHT is also tackling Fibresand for the first time and, being less exposed, could have excellent prospects for the Richard Fahey team if this proves likable for him, especially with Billy Garritty taking 5lb off.
Selection: Deb’s Delight
3.25 – Betway Handicap (1m4f)
Straight Ash made it 2-3 lately when holding off the re-opposing LION’S VIGIL earlier in the month. The runner-up could be well placed to turn things around on these 3lb better terms. That was his first run on the surface and also a first start since July. Having only had three starts in handicaps, he’s got definite scope to build on that near miss and could be another likely sort for Ben Curtis on what looks an excellent book of rides for one of the best riders at this venue.
Selection: Lion’s Vigil
3.55 – Bombardier Maiden Stakes (1m)
Silent Performance has the best form in the book but she isn’t exactly progressing and the application of a first-time visor on this Fibresand debut leaves her with questions to answer, having gone in as short-price favourite when the market opened. TACKLESLIKEAFERRET shaped with plenty of promise in a C&D novice event at the start of the month. That was his racecourse bow and if he makes progress he can have strong claims of giving in-form trainer Robyn Brisland (5-20 lately) another welcome winner.
Selection: Tackleslikeaferret
