It’s great to have all of Europe’s major leagues up and running again and I’m hoping for more of the same after three of my four recommended bets landed last Saturday. Three angles of attack this weekend:
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Union Berlin (Saturday, 14:30)
Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to bounce back from their opening day setback when they welcome Union Berlin to Borussia Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Foals fell to a 3-0 defeat away at star-studded Borussia Dortmund last time out, however, I fancy Gladbach to get up and running this weekend.
Marco Rose’s men qualified for the Champions League by finishing fourth in the Bundesliga last season and the Gladbach boss has managed to retain all of his key players thus far.
Union Berlin, meanwhile, exceeded expectations by beating the drop in their first-ever campaign of top-flight football, however, last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at home to Augsburg suggests that Urs Fischer’s side could struggle to consolidate their top-flight status.
The Iron Union have won just three of their last 12 Bundesliga assignments and it’s worth mentioning that the capital club were ruthlessly cut apart when they visited this venue back in May.
There is little value in backing an outright home success on Saturday at 4/9 with Bet 365, however, we can nudge the price up to a backable 4/5 (Bet 365) shot via a Bet Builder by combining a home win alongside over one match goal and over two Gladbach corners.
The above-mentioned Bet Builder clicked in the previous meeting and I’m happy to side with a repeat this weekend given that the Foals have taken maximum points from 12 of their last 15 home fixtures.
What’s more, Gladbach’s last six Bundesliga bouts at Borussia Park have featured three or more goals and the hosts have notched up two or more strikes in 13 of their last 16 matches in their own manor.
With that in mind, coupled with the fact the Berliners’ brittle backline recorded just one clean sheet on the road last season, I fancy Rose’s side to score at least a couple of goals when claiming their first three points of the season on Saturday.
I’m also happy to throw in at least three Gladbach corners to the aforementioned Bet Builder – the Foals averaged over five corners per-game last season – and I suspect they could be out to prove a point after a bruising defeat away at Borussia Dortmund last time out.
Salford City vs Forest Green (Saturday, 15:00)
Salford City look primed for a title challenge and they will be looking to continue their early-season momentum when they meet Forest Green at Moor Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Graham Alexander’s ambitious outfit made light work of Grimsby last weekend with a thumping 4-0 win and they will attract plenty of attention from punters at quotes of 6/5 ( Betfred) to record back-to-back wins.
Indeed, those odds take appeal, however, I’m more attracted to the same 6/5 price that we can get with Bet 365 for Salford to score two or more goals on Saturday afternoon.
Forest Green, like their opponents, have four points on the board, however, Mark Cooper’s men needed a 96th minute equaliser to draw 2-2 with nine-man Bradford City last weekend.
What’s more, Rovers have recorded just two clean sheets across their last 13 League 2 assignments and they have only managed to win four of their last 22 league fixtures.
With that in mind, coupled with the fact that new Salford striker Ian Henderson has hit four goals in his first two league games, I’m happy to back the Ammies to make the net bulge at least twice during this tussle.
Salford have racked up six goals across their opening two fixtures of the season – scoring two or more on both occasions – and a repeat on Saturday at 6/5 with Bet 365 looks like an attractive angle.
West Brom vs Chelsea (Saturday, 17:30)
Two teams with very different priorities this season go head-to-head at the Hawthorns on Saturday evening as West Brom play host to Chelsea.
The Baggies already look set to be gearing up for a scrap for survival, while big-spending Chelsea will be looking to bridge the gap at the top of the table.
Having said that, Frank Lampard’s star-studded side suffered a brutal reality check last Sunday when losing 2-0 at home to Liverpool, however, I fancy the Blues to bounce back against the Baggies this weekend.
A Chelsea win looks too short at 4/11 with Bet 365, however combining an away win with over one Chelsea goal and at least one West Brom card will boost the price up to 5/6 with Bet 365 – a punt I flagged up in my match preview.
Slaven Bilic’s side have shipped eight goals across their opening two top-flight tussles and I suspect they could find Chelsea’s top-heavy attack too hot to handle at the Hawthorns.
With that in mind, I’m also happy to add at least one West Brom card to the above-mentioned Bet Builder to give us a nice looking 5/6 shot with Bet 365.
Recommended Bets
- Borussia Monchengladbach To Win, Over 1 Match Goal & Borussia Monchengladbach Over 2 Corners (4/5, Bet 365) (NAP)
- Salford City To Score Over 1 Goal (6/5, Bet 365)
- Chelsea To Win, Chelsea Over 1 Goal & West Brom Over 0 Cards (5/6, Bet 365)
