The 2021/22 SPFL season gets underway this weekend and SlipsTips has lined up a double involving two sides who are red-hot favourites to win their respective divisions.
Rangers vs Livingston (Saturday, 13:30)
Champions Rangers kick-start their defence of the Scottish Premiership title with a home match against Livingston on Saturday.
I’ve already penned a separate match preview on this Scottish Premiership curtain-raiser but I’m also going to factor this fixture into the first half of a double.
Rangers claimed the Scottish crown at a canter last term and having dethroned Celtic in such comprehensive fashion, the Light Blues will be looking to build on last season’s success
Steven Gerrard’s Gers begin their bid for back-to-back league titles against Livingston this weekend, with the luxury of running out in front of 23,000 raucous Rangers supporters.
That does not bode well for a Livingston side who ended last season in really bad form, winning just one of their final 12 Scottish top-flight fixtures.
As such, Rangers should be able to pick up from where they left off against the Lions and backing the hosts to make the net bulge at least twice here will form the first part of my double.
Kelty Hearts vs Cowdenbeath (Saturday, 15:00)
Kelty Hearts kick-off life as an SPFL club when they welcome neighbours Cowdenbeath to Central Park on Saturday afternoon.
The ambitious Fife outfit were declared Lowland League champions on a points per game basis last season before putting beleaguered Brechin to the sword in the Pyramid play-off.
Kevin Thomson has since taken the reins at Kelty and the former Rangers youth supremo has secured some eye-catching signings to make his side odds-on favourites for the Scottish League Two title.
Kelty are heavily fancied to hit the ground running this weekend when they play host to a Cowdenbeath side that could be set for a season of struggle.
The money has come for the hosts but I’m going to complete the double by backing Kelty to notch up at least two strikes on Saturday – something Thompson’s top heavy team managed in three of their four Scottish League Cup outings.
Recommended Bet
- Over 1.5 Rangers Goals
- Over 1.5 Kelty Hearts Goals
- Double (1/1, PaddyPower)
