Hamilton’s 2-1 defeat at Ross County on Wednesday has effectively put paid to their chances of beating the drop but their final fixture of the season is still a significant one.
Brian Rice’s side are all but officially relegated unless they can beat Sunday’s opponents Kilmarnock by at least nine goals.
Killie, on the other hand, are perched directly above Accies in the relegation play-off position and they will need to land three points in South Lanarkshire and rely on Motherwell seeing off Ross County if they are to sneak a top-10 finish.
But Kille could be hard tasked in keeping their side of the bargain as Accies chief Rice has stated that his side intend to go out of the Scottish Premiership with a bang.
As such, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Tommy Wright’s troops and given the immense pressure that the visitors will be under I’m going to throw 30+ Booking Points into the first half of my double.
Both of these teams are housed in the top-six of the disciplinary standings and referee Kevin Clancy is averaging three cards per game this term.
Motherwell vs Ross County (Sunday, 12:30)
Ross County are in charge of their own survival destiny ahead of their final Scottish Premiership fixture of the season with Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.
John Hughes’ side made sure that they will not face automatic relegation after securing a hugely-significant 2-1 win agaisnt Hamilton in midweek.
However, the Staggies top-flight future is far from secure as they still have work to do if they are to avoid the pressure cooker that is the Scottish Premiership play-off.
What’s more, Motherwell have undergone a marked improvement since Graham Alexander took the reins, with the Steelmen losing just one of their last 11 matches across 90 minutes.
With that in mind, County could be set for a nervy last day in the relegation play-off stakes so I’m going to complete the even-money (Sky Bet) double with 20+ booking points in this bout.
Indeed, referee Steven McLean is averaging a lowly 2.46 cards per game this season, but I’m prepared to look beyond that here as the play-off battle reaches its dramatic climax.
