SlipsTips takes a look at Saturday’s Scottish League One match between Montrose and Clyde.
Montrose vs Clyde (Saturday, 15:00)
Montrose will be looking to get their Scottish League One promotion push back on track when they play host to Clyde on Saturday.
Stewart Petrie’s side fell to a 2-0 defeat at league leaders Falkirk last Saturday, but the Gable Endies rebounded in style when hitting Nairn County for seven in the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night.
That triumph will have helped restore some confidence in the Montrose camp and they will look to keep the feelgood factor flowing when Clyde come calling.
The Bully Wee resumed their League One campaign with a rather lacklustre 3-1 defeat against East Fife last Saturday, a setback that saw Danny Lennon’s men drop to the bottom of the table.
Indeed, Clyde, like Montrose, bounced back with a midweek Scottish Cup success at Keith, but a trip to a Links Park will represent a serious upgrade on that challenge.
Montrose are a general 11/10 to bank three points on Saturday but I’m prepared to take a chance on the slightly shorter price of 10/11 (Bet 365) for Montrose to score two or more goals during this match.
I watched the Gable Endies game last weekend and Petrie’s posse pushed League 1 pacesetters Falkirk all the way before the Bairns put the game to bed in the dying embers of the second-half.
In fact, only Falkirk have scored more league goals than Montrose this season – the Angus outfit have notched up 19 strikes in 11 League One outings to date and they will be brimming with confidence after banging in seven goals on Tuesday night.
That does not bode well for a confidence-stricken Clyde rearguard that have shipped 22 goals in nine league tussles this term – the leakiest defence in the division by quite some distance.
It’s also worth noting that the Bully Wee’s brittle backline has been breached on two or more occasions in each of their last six League One assignments and that only adds to the appeal of siding with a repeat at Links Park on Saturday.
