After delivering four winners from six selections on Saturday, SlipsTips shares a pick from Ligue 1 on Sunday, with Lorient’s meeting with Angers under the microscope.
Lorient vs Angers (Sunday, 14:00)
Lorient will be looking to return to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they welcome Angers to the Stade du Moustoir on Sunday afternoon.
Regis Le Bris’ men capitulated in midweek as they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 when visiting in-form Reims.
As for Angers, they are anchored to the bottom of the table following a wretched run of 13 consecutive French top-flight losses, the most recent of which was a 2-1 loss against fellow strugglers Ajaccio.
With that in mind, I was surprised to see seventh-placed Lorient chalked up as general 5/6 chances to prevail here in what looks like the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways.
While the above-mentioned price is worthy of serious consideration, the even-money (William Hill) about the hosts scoring two more looks on Sunday looks particularly enticing.
Lorient have only failed to score in two of their 21 Ligue 1 outings this season so far, netting multiple goals in 13 fixtures from that sample – a tally only marginally topped by Monaco.
What’s more, the Brittany-based outfit have made the net bulge twice or more in four of their last five league games, a batch of matches that includes two of the sides housed above them in the standings in the shape of Monaco and Rennes.
That doesn’t augur well for an Angers side who look doomed to the drop having fallen to defeat in 17 of their 21 top-flight outings this term to date, one of which was 2-1 reverse at home to Lorient as recently as last month.
It’s therefore no great surprise to learn that the beleaguered Black and Whites have earned the unenviable tag as the leakiest defence in the division, conceding at least once in 19 of their last 20 Ligue 1 assignments.
In fact, ailing Angers have shipped 2+ strikes in a league-high 16 of their 21 league games this season thus far, so the even-money (William Hill) about a repeat weekend is a wager that undoubtedly represents value.
