International football will take centre stage over the next two weeks, however, the fourth round of fixtures from this season’s Betfred Cup group-stages are pencilled in for Tuesday and Wednesday night.
Kelty Hearts vs Peterhead (Tuesday, 19:45)
Lowland League champions Kelty Hearts will be looking to kick-start their Betfred Cup campaign when they play host to Peterhead on Tuesday night.
Barry Ferguson’s boys battled bravely to respectable 1-0 and 2-1 defeats against top-flight duo Dundee United and St Johnstone, but a home tie with League 1 strugglers Peterhead will look a lot more appealing on paper for the ambitious Fife outfit.
Jim McInally’s men have suffered a bit of stuttering start to the current campaign, having lost three of their opening four League 1 fixtures.
Indeed, the Blue Toon have six Group C points on the board – including the Scottish Premiership scalp of Dundee United – however, I suspect this Betfred Cup clash could be a lot closer than what the betting suggests.
Kelty have signalled their intent during recent transfer windows by capturing a number of players with SPFL experience and I fancy the Fifers to give fragile Peterhead a fright on Tuesday night.
The hosts are huge underdogs at 9/2 (William Hill) and that price makes appeal, however, there is an alternative angle that I’m more attracted to when making use of William Hill‘s Build Your Odds feature.
The combination that I like the look of is Kelty Hearts to score and Kelty Hearts with a + 2 start on the handicap, both of which combined will give us a nice looking 17/20 shot with William Hill.
Kelty have won five of their opening six Lowland League fixtures of the season and they have slammed in 13 goals across those matches – averaging 2.33 strikes per game.
With that in mind, coupled with the fact that Peterhead have conceded at least two goals in three of their four League 1 tussles this term, I’m more than happy to back Ferguson’s men to make the bulge at New Central Park.
It’s also worth noting that the above-mentioned combination clicked during Kelty’s recent tussle with top-tier St Johnstone and that only adds to the appeal of siding with a repeat when the Blue Toon come to town on Tuesday night.
