SlipsTips takes a look at the Bet Builder market ahead of France’s Euro 2020 last 16 tie with Switzerland on Monday night.
France vs Switzerland (Monday, 20:00)
France’s reward for topping this year’s Group of Death is a last 16 clash with Switzerland at the National Arena in Bucharest on Monday night.
The pre-tournament favourites have hardly pulled up any trees thus far but they are unbeaten in 10 matches and remain worthy favourites to conquer the continent.
Switzerland, on the other hand, sealed their passage to the knockout stages with a Xherdan Shaqiri-inspired 3-1 win over Turkey in their final group game.
The Swiss have become regulars in reaching the last 16 of major tournaments but they have failed to book a quarter-final berth since the 1954 World Cup.
The bookies odds suggest that trend is set to continue here, with France a general 4/7 to win inside 90 minutes, but I’ll head to the Bet Builder market to get a bigger price.
If we combine France to win, under five match goals and zero match cards we will be presented with a nice looking 5/6 (Bet 365) play.
Didier Deschamps has an awesome array of attacking talent at his disposal but he is a manager who is happy to sacrifice flair for success, as was the case during the group stage.
Only two of France’s last 17 international outings have ended with over four match goals, while under 2.5 backers would have been rewarded in seven of the last nine matches involving the world champions.
What’s more, eight of Les Bleus’ last 10 competitive victories have featured fewer than five match goals and whilst Switzerland may sit back and try to frustrate Deschamps and Co, the French should have too much firepower for Vladimir Petkovic’s posse.
With that in mind, I’m happy to combine a France win alongside under five match goals, but in order to nudge up the price, I’ll throw over zero match cards into the equation.
1+ card has landed in all of these sides’ games so far, not to mention Argentinian referee Fernando Rapallini has been selected to take charge of this Bucharest bout.
The South American whistler has a reputation for being card-happy – Rapallini was averaging north of 60 booking points per game during the most recent domestic season – and a solitary match booking doesn’t look like too much to ask for now that the stakes have increased.
Recommended Bet
- France to Win, Under 5 Match Goals & Over 0 Match Cards– Bet Builder – 5/6 (Bet 365)
