Europe’s major leagues will take centre stage during what is an action-packed midweek, however, the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals are pencilled in for Tuesday and Wednesday night.
Alloa vs Hibernian (Tuesday, 20:00)
High-flying Hibs are enjoying a great campaign in the Scottish Premiership and they can continue their upward curve when they travel to Alloa on Tuesday night.
Jack Ross’ appointment has been a game-changing factor in Hibs’ revival and the Easter Road outfit will be eager to book a Betfred Cup semi-final berth with a win in Clackmannanshire.
Standing in Hibs’ way of yet another trip to Hampden is Ross’ former club Alloa Athletic, the lowest ranked team remaining in the competition.
The Wasps have punched above their weight in the Scottish Championship for several seasons and they will be looking to add Hibs to their long list of scalps at the Indodrill Stadium.
Peter Grant’s part-timers stunned Hearts to earn a place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup, but normality may be restored when the men in green from the capital come calling on Tuesday night.
However, there is little value in backing Hibs at a general 2/5, so instead I’ll head to the Bet Builder market and combine over one Hibs goal, over three Hibs corners and over zero Alloa cards in the game which pays 5/6 (Bet 365).
Free-scoring Hibs have notched up two or more strikes in each of their last four top-flight fixtures and that does not bode well for an Alloa backline who boast the second-worst defensive record in the second tier.
The semi-professional hosts have kept just one clean sheet in their opening seven league games and I suspect they will find red-hot Hibs’ top-heavy attack too hot to handle.
What’s more, Alloa are averaging just under two cards per game this term so I’m happy to add at least one booking to the recommended Bet Builder and given that Hibs should see plenty of the ball during this cup clash I’ll also back visitors to hit over three corners.
It’s also worth noting that the above-mentioned combination has clicked in each of Hibs’ last two Scottish Premiership tussles and that only adds to the appeal of siding with the same formula when faced with inferior opposition on Tuesday night.
Recommended Bet
- Over 1 Hibs Goal, Over 3 Hibs Corners & Over 0 Alloa Cards – Bet Builder – 5/6 (Bet 365)
