This week Simon is back to share with you his best bets for the All-Weather action at Southwell and Wolverhampton on Wednesday.
Bank on Beryl at Wolverhampton
Improving filly BERYL THE PERIL can follow up last month’s win at Wolverhampton when she returns to the West Midlands track for the MansionBet Beaten By A Head Handicap (1.30) on Wednesday.
She has progressed with every run for the upwardly mobile young Belgian Kevin Philippart De Foy and travelled sweetly to get off the mark over these seven furlongs under smart apprentice Laura Pearson.
Well drawn in stall one, she can make light work of just a 3lb higher mark with Pearson again in the saddle.
Tiger Ready to Roar in Sprint Handicap
The form of the Newcastle race that TIPPERARY TIGER finished fourth last time couldn’t have worked out much better, so he must be of interest in the six-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton (3.00).
Karl Burke’s three-year-old finished just behind subsequent winners Kind Review and Giogiobbo over a stiffer trip yet races off a 1lb lower mark this time.
Well drawn in stall two in a race that will place a greater emphasis on speed, Tipperary Tiger remains less unexposed than some and is Burke’s only runner at the meeting.
Ubahha Worth a Second Chance
UBAHHA is becoming expensive to follow but I’m prepared to give him another chance in the opening five-furlong dash at Southwell on Wednesday (3.55).
Antony Britain’s sprinter caught my eye in a better race two starts ago but had no luck in running over course and distance last week yet ran on strongly to finish just out of the money.
Mark Winn, who is attached to the powerful David O’Meara stable, rode his first winner recently and takes off a useful 7lb.
Expect a Smooth Success for Ellison
Brian Ellison’s ONESMOOTHOPERATOR made an encouraging debut for the stable at Wolverhampton earlier this month and has been found a good opportunity to get his head in front in the 5.00 at Southwell.
The former David Simcock stayer did well to finish second despite a wide trip last time and gets the chance to race off an unchanged mark.
He brings stronger form to the contest than the imposing course and distance winner Khilwafy, who has the scope to make a useful handicapper for the in-form David Thompson but has more to do off his opening mark.
Wolverhampton (Wednesday):
1.30 Beryl The Peril
3.00 Tipperary Tiger
Southwell (Wednesday):
3.55 Ubahha
