Read on to find Simon’s insights and tips ahead of racing at Lingfield and Wolverhampton this Friday:
Hannon Filly Can Excel at Lingfield
Richard Hannon’s filly EXCELING can capitalise on a quick re-appearance at Lingfield Park on Friday (1.40) following a last-gasp defeat at the Surrey track earlier in the week.
She got caught flat footed at a crucial stage of the six-furlong contest before running on late on Tuesday, only to be caught in the dying strides by a well handicapped rival.
Exceling’s best form has come over six on more galloping tracks – Chelmsford City and Kempton Park – so a step up to seven furlongs around this sharp circuit looks ideal.
Johnston Filly Set For Lingfield Repeat
Mark and Charlie Johnston’s decision to keep their partnership horse NO FLIES ON ME in training as a four-year-old can reap an instant return at Lingfield Park on Friday (3.20).
The lightly raced four-year-old returns to the scene of her course and distance victory in August and is open to enough improvement to follow up in a weak race despite a five-month break.
Raised only 3lb for that breakthrough win, the daughter of Bow Creek has the scope to make light work of her modest mark of 55 with the ever-reliable Joe Fanning in the saddle.
Desert Can Scorch Home in Wolverhampton Dash
George Boughey has found a solid opportunity for sprinter DESERT LIME at Wolverhampton on Friday (4.00).
Not only does she take on her own sex but crucially steps up in trip in this six-furlong handicap after looking in need of it in her previous starts at Lingfield and Southwell.
A six-furlong winner, Desert Lime has been eased 2lb by the assessor, is well drawn to stalk the pace in stall four and wears cheekpieces for the first time – another interesting angle.
Unique Can Prove Value in Dunstall Park Finale
SOYOUNIQUE resumes on an appealing mark on only his second start for Stuart Williams in the closing seven-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton on Friday (7.00).
A winner at this track for Sir Mark Todd, he should strip fitter for his re-appearance run at Southwell last month.
Eased 2lb for that mid-division finish, The five-year-old is well drawn in stall four and looks a value option in receipt of weight from all his rivals, with strong jockey Jason Hart for company.
