AC Milan vs Hellas Verona
The Rossoneri will stake their unbeaten domestic form as they host Hellas Verona in the seventh matchday of the Serie A 2020/21 season.
AC Milan recently came from a shocking defeat against Lille in their Europa League group stage match, and that will give them enough motivation to try and bounce back anew.
But that loss has not affected their resurgence here in the Italian top-flight as they continue to hold on to the top spot.
Stefano Pioli’s men have gathered 16 points and they plan on extending their undefeated streak to show everyone that they are in it to win the Scudetto.
They will face a tricky test this weekend as their visitors in Hellas Verona have been experiencing a resurgence of their own.
For a club that was expected to hover around the 11th to 13th spots, Ivan Juric’s men have been punching above their weight as they’re currently seventh at the table.
Level with Napoli, Inter Milan, and AS Roma with 11 points, the Gialloblu have a unique opportunity to outpace them all in the standings should they notch a win against their counterparts.
So who will reign supreme over at San Siro? Read on below for the latest match preview courtesy of SBOTOP.
Talking Points
AC Milan eager to bounce back
After going undefeated in the last 24 matches, AC Milan have finally come back to earth when they were humbled by Lille in the last time out.
The Rossoneri were caught on an off night, particularly defencively as they were focused more on scoring rather than preventing goals from their opponents.
The wheels feel off in the 22nd minute when centre-back Alessio Romagnoli gave away a penalty for the second game in a row and then Yusuf Yazici scored his first goal of the evening.
The French side would continue to wreak havoc as AC Milan’s backline was exposed all night, leading to effective counterattacks that gave Yusuf Yazici two more goals to cap off his hat-trick.
In the 62nd minute, AC Milan further unraveled when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was subbed off due to his poor performance. The veteran striker apparently shouted expletives towards Stefano Pioli’s way, but the coach isn’t bothered at all.
The good news for AC Milan is that jet lag won’t be an issue since they’ll get to play at home once more.
Their defeat is bound to happen at some point anyway and hopefully that bitter taste from their mouths will serve as an awakening for a better performance this weekend.
Hellas Verona defying preseason expectations
The Gialloblu’s early success so far this season can be mainly attributed to their stifling defence, and they will need more of that to continue their fine form.
Ivan Juric’s men are leading the league in that category as they’ve conceded only three goals as of this writing.
Marshalling the backline is their goalkeeper in Marco Silvestri, whose save percentage is currently the league’s best at a whopping 88.5-per cent.
But in order to keep up with the upper echelon clubs, Hellas Verona would need to improve on their attack that has generated only eight goals so far.
Andrea Favili and Antonin Barak lead the way with two goals apiece, and they should be on their shooting boots from here on forward.
History
Hellas Verona’s mettle will definitely be tested against AC Milan this Sunday because they have to deal with someone like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who continues to provide us Serie A 2020 highlights even at 39 years of age.
The Swedish sensation has already notched seven goals in the first seven matchdays of the season along with two assists. Only club legends Gunnar Nordahl (1950 and 1955), Marco van Basten (1992), and Andriy Shevchenko (2003) have done the rare feat.
At the same time, the Gialloblu are horrendous on the road as their last away win dates back to January against the now-relegated SPAL.
Historically, AC Milan have notched 16 wins, 12 draws, and zero losses at home against Hellas Veronas.

Both of these teams have shown strong defencive displays over the past few weeks here in Serie A, so football fans can’t really expect a goal fest to happen.
Going for Under 2.50 @ 2.09 or Total Goal 2-3 @ 1.86 are also bets to consider placing your wagers on since they provide safer alternatives.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Rafael Leao leading the way, the Rossoneri are expected to take care of business simply because of their stronger attacking prowess.
