LET’S get back on the goals trail this week after missing out on International weekend. I’ve got three teams who should score tow or more on Saturday.
Ipswich v Doncaster
Ipswich may have been knocked off the top of the table last week whilst not playing but they’ve a chance to reclaim top spot with a win at home to Doncaster in League One.
The Tractor Boys delivered a couple of weeks ago when I tipped them to score two or more and I’m hoping for more of the same on Saturday. They top the scoring charts in the league and only top-of-the-table Wycombe can boast more shots per match than them.
A defeat to Luton in the Cup is the only black mark on their report card this season and they’ve found the net in each of their eight matches to date.
Visitors Doncaster Rovers have had had a similarly good opening to a disrupted start to the season. Scheduled matches with Bolton and Bury were postponed meaning that although they’re seventh in the table and four points off the top they’re two matches behind every team above them except Ipswich.
Although they’ve won their last four, Doncaster have conceded in each of them and as I’ve previously said I expect Ipswich will pick up plenty of points at Portman Road this season. Rovers could find the net in this which leaves Ipswich needing two and that’ll do for me at 5/6
Ipswich to score 2+ 5/6
Southend v Fleetwood
Also in League 1, Southend have been shipping goals for fun. Six defeats in six games and 17 goals conceded saw manager Kevin Bond fall on his sword. It would be somewhat ironic if their record read 0-0-7 after Bond’s departure.
Fleetwood visit on Saturday and they’re in good goalscoring form, averaging over 1.7 per match. Hitman Paddy Madden is always worth watching for the Fishermen and he’s netted five times already this season.
Fleetwood are 10/11 to win but make more appeal at 5/6 to score two or more against the joint worst defence in the division.
Salford City v Cheltenham
Salford have invested heavily to climb up the leagues at breakneck speed but if they don’t start converting draws in to wins they could find their ambitions stalling in League 2.
The newly-promoted side have drawn their last five matches leaving them in the lower half of the table. They’ve scored in six of their opening seven and all of those aforementioned draws have seen both teams score.
Cheltenham have scooped up 11 points from 21 available; impressive enough. However ten of those points have been won against teams currently in the bottom six of the table, and only one away from home. You can beat what’s put in front of you but Cheltenham’s failure to score in their opening three away matches makes Salford look good value at 21/20.
They’re 1/1 to score two or more.
