It’s the final round of fixtures from the group section of the Betfred cup in Scotland and of the Premiership clubs involved, only Motherwell and Ross County can be satisfied with their performances.
One of the clubs who will be bitterly disappointed to be out is St Johnstone. Knocked out last week after losing 2-1 to Ross County then with the homecoming off Stevie May collapseing at the 11th, I’ts not been a great week for us saints fans.
Some pride was restored on Wednesday against Brechin and they have another good opportunity to get another morale bosting win away at Division One Forfar.
The bookies have use priced at 13/20 which is a fantastic price IMO, we should no bigger than 4/9 given Forfar are part time and two leagues below us.
Forfar Athletic vs St Johnstone (3pm)
A shock 1-0 defeat away to Montrose set the tone for St Johnstone’s shock exit from the competition, this was then followed up by a 2-1 defeat at home to Ross Count – They should have been 3-0 or 4-0 up before Ross County equalised.
If you don’t take your chances you don’t win matches – some sort of pride was restored on Wednesday as we cruised to a 4-0 win against Brechin. It was probably the most one sided match I’ve ever seen and quite frankly it should have been 7 or 8.
Forfar will pose a much stiffer test but I’d still expect us to win this and win it well. Matty Kennedy will start and he’ll give the Forfar rear-guard a torrid time. With Michael O’Halloran and Danny Swanson getting fitter with each game, just a little more composure in front of goal should see us score a few as we’ll create lots of chances.
A win For Forfar would actually see them qualify which would be a great achievement for Loon’s Boss and ex St Johnstone legend Jim Weir, I just feel we’ll have too much quality.
Recommended Bets:
- St Johnstone and over 1.5 match goals
- 10/11 (Ladbrokes) (NAP) (NB)
- St Johnstone to score in both halves
- 6/5 (William Hill)
- Over 3.5 match goals
- 143/100 (Marathonbet)
All 12 Betfred cup games over 1.5 goals worth a dabble at 7/1
