CELTIC and Rangers resume the battle for Premiership supremacy on Sunday after the drama of Thursday night’s European exertions.
Reaching the group stage of the Europa League was massive for both clubs, with the Hoops seeing off Sarajevo and Gers claiming an impressive win over Galatasaray.
The cash windfall might help them hold on to star turns such as Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Kent, as well as bring in some fresh faces before Monday’s deadline.
Their Euro progress also makes for a tighter title race at home, with both sides having to cope with the demands of Thursday-Sunday football during a packed fixture list.
Celtic have the tougher assignment, heading to Perth to face St Johnstone while Rangers host Ross County.
But the Hoops have an excellent record at McDiarmid Park, winning the last six games there by a 17-0 aggregate score.
Saints last beat Celtic at home back in 2016 so it’s no surprise to see Neil Lennon’s men just 1-4 for the win at McBookie.
St Johnstone are 10-1 for a shock win while even the draw is 5-1.
The best value might be a Hoops win to nil at 10-11 with McBookie. Saints have netted just once in their last six games while Celtic have kept clean sheets in their last three matches.
Despite going on the rampage in Perth in recent visits I would be surprised if Celtic scored a barrowload.
Two of their last three wins have been by a single goal and with Albian Ajeti injured and Edouard out of sorts they may find it hard to break through.
Under 2.5 match goals pays 6-5 with bet365 while a two-goal winning margin for Lennon’s side appeals at 14-5 with McBookie.
In the anytime scorer market I like the look of Mohamed Elyounoussi at 12-5 with bet365 given he should start up front.
Rangers should have too much firepower for County who are 35-1 outsiders at Betfair.
Steven Gerrard’s men have yet to concede at home in the league so a Gers win to nil appeals but it’s a best 1-2 at bet365.
Better value is found in the handicaps where Rangers -2 is available at evens with McBookie. Gers have averaged three goals at home in the league so there’s every chance that could land.
In the anytime scorer market James Tavernier is overpriced at 2-1 with Betway now he’s back on the penatlies.
Jordan Jones is also tempting at 21-10 with Paddy Power as Gerrard may make changes.
Super Single
- Rangers -2 (3pm, Sun)
- (Evens, McBookie)
Anytime Scorer Double
- Elyounoussi (Celtic) – 12 noon, Sun
- Tavernier (Rangers)
- (7-1, Betway)
