THERE are no standout games in the Premiership today but there is a standout team in action lower down the leagues.
Cove Rangers have been an excellent addition to the SPFL and their games have been thrill a minute.
As soon as they hammered Berwick in the play-offs I tipped them to win League Two at 6-1 then at 7-2 on the anteposts.
The Highland League champions are now no bigger than evens at BetVictor ahead of second favourites Edinburgh City at 6-1 with Paddy Power.
Cove started with a 5-0 rout of Edinburgh and were held 4-4 at Albion Rovers before beating Cowdenbeath 3-2.
They top the table with seven points and today face pointless basement boys Stirling Albion who have lost all their league games 1-0.
Cove look banker material at a best 3-4 with Betway and if they keep on scoring an away win and over 1.5 match goals looks good at 6-5 with Paddy Power while Cove and over 2.5 goals pays 6-4 – and those odds are dropping.
Amazingly the prolific Mitch Megginson failed to net against Cowdenbeath so expect him to hit the target at Forthbank. He is 7-2 at McBookie to break the deadlock and 9-10 to score at anytime.
Elsewhere in League Two I like improving Albion Rovers at home to another side with zero points in Brechin. The Glebe Park men haven’t adapted to life at the lowest level and Rovers tempt at a best 6-5 with William Hill.
In the Premiership Ross County could be today’s best bets at home to Livingston. They’ve started well with a 3-0 home defeat of Accies then missed a penalty in a draw at Hearts.
Last week’s Betfred Cup defeat at Partick Thistle was a setback but they can stay unbeaten by beating a side that’s drawn their openers. County are 6-5 at Betfred.
Hibs aren’t the most reliable of sides but should beat St Johnstone at home. Paul Heckingbottom’s men beat Morton 5-3 last week after extra time and their defence may have fewer problems against a low-scoring side. Hibs are 8-11 at Marathonbet.
The Old Firm are in action tomorrow after mixed fortunes in the Europa League. Celtic should have done enough after beating AIK 2-0 at home and while Rangers will be confident after a 0-0 draw they would have loved an away goal at Legia Warsaw.
Gers are no bigger than 1-4 at St Mirren so best bet could be Jermain Defoe to score first at 11-4 with McBookie.
Celtic should win by at least two at home to Hearts – 3-4 at Coral – and consider Ryan Christie to score at 11-10 with McBookie.
The Championship’s going to plan with the Dundee clubs unbeaten but both face tough tests today.
Dundee will take confidence for holding Aberdeen over 90 minutes in the Betfred Cup before losing in extra time. They beat Inverness 1-0 in the Betfred Cup and are 5-4 at Betfred to win again.
Dunfermline pushed Celtic all the way last week and on that performance look big at 2-1 with Ladbrokes at home to Dundee United. However, United are unbeaten in eight trips to East End Park and arrive with some firepower so best bet could be both to score at 19-20 with sportingbet.
Ayr have started well and 9-10 with William Hill to beat QoS at home looks fair.
League One was the place for goals last week with every team scoring – a repeat today pays 15-1 with bet365.
Peterhead v Forfar looks the top candidates with four out of five meetings at Balmoor going over 3.5 goals. The last three meetings between Raith and Montrose have brought up btts and while Raith’s last three matches have totalled 17 goals, Stranraer’s previous six have seen both on target.
