CHELTENHAM takes centre stage this week in the sporting calendar but that that won’t matter a jot to both Dundee and Ayr who meet at Dens Park to try and enhance their promotion credentials.
Ayr hold a two-point lead over their opponents and a defeat for Dundee would seriously hamper their chances of reaching the play-offs, especially with a trio of clubs on their heels in the form of Dunfermline, Arbroath and Morton.
Dundee vs Ayr United (KO 7.45pm)
These two met on Saturday and fought out a stalemate at Somerset Park and meet again tonight looking to cement their place in the play-offs.
Dundee have been massively disappointing this season and to be 21 points behind leaders and city rivals Dundee United is embarrassing given their budget, which will dwarf eight other sides in the league. They have underachieved, especially with players like Graham Dorrans and Kane Hemmings in their ranks.
They are on a decent run at the moment though, unbeaten in five and have conceded just one goal although they need to start turning draws into wins, especially after they gave Alloa a 0-0 hammering last midweek.
Ayr have won just one of their last six and scoring goals has been a real problem for them recently. They’ve only managed to score two or more goals in one of their last 11 matches and with Dundee shipping very few goals at the moment I feelDundee can edge this and leap frog the Honest Men.
As I said Dundee have a lot of experience and quality in that squad and they should really be taking care of sides at home. They are unbeaten in three games this season against Ayr, including a 1-0 win here in September and can repeat that again tonight.
