Leipzig v Mainz
Leipzig have plenty of catching up to do as they enter the new year down in 10th place having already lost as many games – seven – as they did in the whole of last season’s Bundesliga.
Domenico Tedesco has replaced the sacked Jesse Marsch in the hotseat and after four points from his opening two games, the shock home loss to Arminia Bielefeld before the winter break leaves lots of room for improvement.
Leipzig have generally been decent at home this season, winning six of their eight fixtures before the Bielefeld calamity, and can get the better of poor travellers Mainz.
Bo Svensson’s men sit two points above the hosts but have lost six of their eight away fixtures. Back Leipzig at 4-5 with Bet365.
Bayer Leverkusen v Union Berlin
Despite a poor end to 2021 – no wins in three Bundesliga games – Leverkusen remain in the top four and look primed to hit the ground running on their return to action.
They can call upon prolific striker Patrik Schick – who has netted 16 times in 14 league outings this season – while Union Berlin are without their top scorer Taiwo Awoniyi who is away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria.
Union are just a point worse off than Leverkusen and will make life difficult, but the home side can prevail at 13-15 with SBK.
Granada v Barcelona
Barcelona are building some momentum under Xavi and can climb to third in La Liga by ending Granada’s six-game unbeaten run.
Since the club legend took charge in November, Barca have suffered just one league loss in seven and their current run is four without defeat, having beaten Mallorca 1-0 on their last away day.
The Catalan giants will be strengthened by players returning for this weekend’s trip to Granada who sit 13th in the table but are seeking a fourth straight home league win.
Take Barca to edge it at 11-14 with SBK.
