Manchester City top the betting in all three competitions they’re challenging for and should take another step closer to a potential Treble at Wembley this afternoon.
Opponents Sheffield United have had a heck of a season under Paul Heckingbottom and are edging towards automatic promotion back to the top flight. Their run to the semi-finals of the FA Cup for today’s trip to Wembley has been the icing on the cake so far but they could hardly have been handed a tougher task than to beat one of the best teams in Europe right now.
City thumped Championship leaders Burnley 6-0 in the quarter-finals and in the large expanse at Wembley could have similar joy against the Blades, especially if they break the deadlock early.
Erling Haaland helped himself to a hat-trick against the Clarets and is 9/2 to add another to his incredible tally this season.
Only Newcastle boast a better defensive record in the Premier League than City so the 5/6 on a win to nil looks a big upgrade on the 1/7 on them just to win.
Roy Hodgson has worked his magic at Crystal Palace and the Eagles are flying right now. Three wins in a row have seen them open up a nine point gap between themselves and the drop zone. What Everton would give for a run like that at the moment!
The Toffees have won just one of their last eight and are only above the bottom three by virtue of a better goal difference than Nottingham Forest. The return of Domic Calvert-Lewin might give them a boost but Paalce should be good for the three points at 21/20.
Liverpool ran riot at Leeds on Monday night and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping it’s a sign of things to come for the remainder of the season. The Reds have now scored 9, 7 and 6 in single matches in the Premier League, accounting for 39% of their goal tally for the season and they could add a few more to that this evening.
When they’re on song they can tear teams apart and with Nottingham Forest‘s poor away record this season we should be on for another comfortable home win at Anfield. Over 2.5 Liverpool goals pays 4/5 with over 3.5 at 2/1. Alternatively you can back ‘any other home win’ on SBK at 9/4 which accounts for any win for Liverpool that sees them score four or more.
North of the border it’s the last matchday before the league split in the Scottish Premiership and there’s a 3-way race to finish in the top six. St Mirren (44pts) are in pole position and should cement their place with a win at even money over Kilmarnock who are still searching for the first league victory away from Rugby Park this season.
Hibs (43pts) occupy sixth place at the moment but could suffer from a ‘new-manager bounce’ at St Johnstone who parted company with double-cup winning manager Callum Davidson this week after a string of poor results. The Saintees aren’t out of the woods as far as relegation is concerned so still plenty for them to play for so the match at McDiarmid Park looks best left alone.
Livingston (42pts) have flip-flopped between the top and bottom half of the league all season and need a bit good fortune to secure a third top-six finish in four years. They travel to a resurgent Dundee United who’s only loss in five has come against Rangers. The Arabs are well priced at 7/5 to boost their survival chances with a win.
In the east-end of Glasgow Celtic should cruise to another three points that will take them ever closer to the title. It looked like they were going to annihilate Killie last week but declared on four after just 27 minutes having also missed a penalty.
Motherwell are the team in the firing line and they’d performed admirably under Stuart Kettlewell who has guided them out of relegation trouble. But the Hoops are just relentless these days and have now amassed 102 league goals. They’ve scored 2 or more in a mammoth 94% of league games and scored inside the first 15 minutes in half of their 32 games to date.
Over 1.5 first half goals for Celtic has landed in 11 of their 16 fixtures at Celtic Park and is 11/10 to land today.
Who knows how things will end up in the Championship but the ball is firmly in Dundee‘s court after the 0-0 draw at Somerset Park between Ayr United and Queen’s Park. That kept the Dark Blues top of the table ahead of their trip to in-form Inverness.
The Dens Park side have played one game less than their nearest rivals and can open up a three point lead with a win. That’ll be easier said than done against Caley who have won six in a row. Should they be victorious they be just one point behind the leaders but will have played a game more. Follow?
The Highlanders look a bit of value at 14/5 in what has been a topsy-turvy season in the second tier but they could have one eye on next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final.
Arbroath have been backed in a little to get the better of Cove Rangers and rightly so. Dick Campbell looks like he’s pulled it out the back again and a win for The Red Lichties, who’ve only lost one of their last nine, at 3/4 would all but ensure their safety.
