9th v 10th in the Premier League would rarely be classed as Match of the Day but it’s a different matter when it’s Liverpool v Chelsea.
Both sides got back to winning ways last time out but are in need of a big win to reiginte their season.
A much-changed Liverpool side edged past Wolves in a cup replay which would’ve given the place a lift but Jurgen Klopp is still missing key players in the shape of Diaz, Jota, Firminho and Van Dijk.
Joao Felix is suspended but new arrival Mykhailo Mudryk could feature for the Blues and he’s 9/2 to mark his debut with a goal.
The Ukrainian could provide a spark for Graham Potter’s side but they’ve looked a long way off it this season and there’s little to suggest they can win at Anfield where the Reds have only losy once this season. Back Liverpool to pick up the three points at 10/11.
Brighton‘s impressive win over Liverpool took them back up to seventh and it’s a measure of the great season they’re having that they’re just above even money (21/20) to win at Leicester.
The Foxes’ mini-revival appears to be over, their only win since returning from the World Cup break (W1 L5) coming against Gillingham and the confidence seems to be ebbing away week after week at the King Power.
The Seagull’s recent goalscoring exploits have caught the eye. Three goals against Liverpool last week took their tally to 17 in their last five games with 24 score in total in those five. Over 2.5 Goals pays 10/11 at SBK.
There’s little to choose between West Ham and Everton who both find themselves in the bottom three. Frank Lampard will be glad to be away from Merseyside following last week’s protests and would love nothing more than three points agianst his old team.
This one feels like a bit of a toss of coin so 4/1 on the Toffees could be a worth addition to a longshot Acca.
In Scotland it’s Scottish Cup Fourth Round weekend. Good luck to all involved at Stirling Uni, Drumchapel and Darvel who are flying the flag for the Lowland League and the 6th tier, West of Scotland Football League.
The freezing conditions may be the greatest threat to the bigger teams and Motherwell won’t be looking forward to their trip to Arbroath. The Steelmen do have a very good away record while Dick Campbell’s side have struggled at home, but conditions could be tricky on the north coast and if Well aren’t on their game they could come unstuck.
Livingston could be another on punters’ shortlist to suffer a cup upset at Stenhousemuir but David Martindale’s men should get the job done. They’ve won their last five visits to Ochilview, albeit that record goes back to 2011, but they look solid enough at 2/5 and can be paired with holders Rangers who should win at troubled St Johnstone to makeup an even money Scottish Cup double.
