The battle for Christmas number one reaches its climax this evening but who will end up Top of the Pops for the festive period in the Premier League?
Aston Villa blew their chance last night, only managing a draw with Sheffield United which means it’s down to Liverpool and Arsenal in tonight’s clash at Anfield.
The Reds were off key against Manchester United last weekend but the Gunners should give it more of a go than the Red Devils, though they wouldn’t be too unhappy with a share of the spoils either.
Liverpool edge it in the betting with Bet365 making them 29/20 to overtake Arsenal with a win. Mikel Arteta’s men are 17/10 for a victory that would see them open up a four point gap on tonight’s opponents.
Some of these top of the clashes have fallen flat ion recent times but fingers crossed this one serves up some festive thrills. So lets go with Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals at 3/1.
Fulham’s last two home games have resulted in 5-0 wins so they look decent value at 4/6 to get the better of Burnley who’ve lost eight of nine away from home.
Everton’s resurgence will come under scrutiny in North London this afternoon when they visit Tottenham Hotspur. The Toffees have won four in a row since being hit a 10 point penalty and beyond that they’ve won their last four on the road at West Ham, Palace, Forest and Burnley – only Spurs have won more points on the road.
Ange Postecoglou is still nursing his squad through an injury crisis but they’ve a tremendous record against Everton which probably accounts for the fact they’re 8/11 to win this one.
Spurs have shown enough in recent weeks that they can cope with key losses to the squad but they’ve kept just one clean sheet in seven so a win might come with the concession of a goal. So a Tottenham win could come with both teams scoring which pays 2/1.
In Scotland we can’t ignore Celtic corners against bottom side Livingston. The Hoops have been best avoided in the win market in recent weeks and David Martindale will be setting his side up to frustrate the Hoops for as long as possible today.
That plays in to our hands as far as corners are concerned and the 11/10 on Celtic to hit double figures appeals as does the 21/20 on five or more in the first half. Last week they hit nine in the first 45 minutes.
Kilmarnock v St Johnstone has 1-0 written all over over. Killie’s home form has been really good while St Johnstone can’t score away – just one goal in eight on the road.
The battle of the Jags should see goals at Firhill. Partick and Inverness drew 2-2 earlier in the season and Caley look more potent under Duncan Ferguson. Over 2.5 and BTTS pays 20/21.
All four home sides are short prices in League Two and the four-fold pays over 9/2. Dumbarton and Stenhousemuir looked nailed on at home to Clyde and Elgin City so profit will likely be dependent on Peterhead and Spartans winning.
