After last week’s 7-0 mauling of Manchester United, Liverpool return to action in search of three points that will take them in to the top four, even if it is only for a few hours.
Those heady heights felt a long way off just a few weeks ago when the Reds were tenth in the table following a 3-0 defeat to Wolves but a win in the Merseyside derby appears to have belatedly kick-started their season and they’ve taken 13 points from the last 15 available.
With a bit of momentum behind them they should be good for the three points at bottom-side Bournemouth in today’s early kick-off. The Reds of course put nine past the Cherries earlier in the season and have scored 3, 4, 4 and 3 goals on their last four trips to the south coast. Liverpool should get our accas off to a winning start.
Man City are another side who’ll find their way on to plenty of accumulators today. Hosts Crystal Palace have yet to win this year and scored just five goals in those 10 games, hardly the kind of form you’d want ahead of a visit by City.
Pep Guardiola may have one eye on the midweek clash with RB Leipzig but he can’t afford any slip-ups in his pursuit of Arsenal at the summit. Phil Foden is aiming to score for a fourth successive match and is a generous looking 13/5 to net once more.
In the Championship, Middlesbrough continue to impress under Michael Carrick and can secure another win today at Swansea. The Swans have won just one of their last seven, against third-bottom Blackpool, whilst Boro are the form team in the division, winning six of their last seven. 23/20 looks a very tempting price.
It only looks a matter of time before Burnley‘s return to the top flight is confirmed. It should be plain sailing for them today at Turf Moor against rock-bottom Wigan whom they’ve already put five past this season. Add the Clarets to Liverpool and Man City for a 8/5 Treble.
Inverness Caley Thistle, tipped here at 12/5, became the first team to book their place in the Scottish Cup quarter finals last night, today it’s the turn of either Hearts or Celtic at Tynecastle.
The two teams lock horns again after a 3-1 win for the Hoops on Wednesday night and we should be in for a lunch-time cracker in Edinburgh today. The sides served up a seven-goal thriller when they last met in Gorgie, Greg Taylor providing the decisive strike for Ange Postecoglou’s side back in October.
The Jambos appear to be going in to the game with plenty of confidence in causing an upset at 6/1 but Celtic’s phenomenal domestic record suggests otherwise and the likelihood is that it’ll be the Bhoys who are in the hat for the semi-final draw.
But it could be another goal-filled encounter. Lawrence Shankland scored a hat-trick (two from the spot) in that 4-3 defeat earlier in the season and he should return to the starting XI after sitting out Wednesday’s clash to provide a genuine goal threat for the hosts.
Reo Hatate was also rested in midweek by Postecoglou but the Japanese midfielder should start in midfield today. He scored screamer on his first visit to Tynecastle. He’s just 13/8 to score at Bet365 but a much more appealing 10/3 at Skybet.
Over 2.5 Goals pays a miserable 2/5 but two or more first half goals came up trumps for us in the midweek encounter and is handily priced at 11/10 today.
Nothing fancy in the Scottish lower leagues this week. Dunfermline should be too good for Peterhead in League One as should Stirling who are away to Bonnyrigg. The double pays nearly 9/10.
