With Manchester City not in action until Sunday Arsenal have the chance to open up an eight point lead at the top of the Premier League when the visit Everton in today’s lunchtime kick-off.
The Toffees have appointed Sean Dyche to get them out of the mess they’re in and he could hardly have asked for a tougher start than against the relentless Gunners.
A new manager always makes things a bit trickier to call. Will he get a response out of his new squad? or will those players who got their previous manager the bullet continue in the same vein?
None of that will matter if Arsenal keep up their brilliant form. Mikel Arteta’s side have come through a tough run of fixtures and although they exited the FA Cup at the hands of Man City they’re still in pole position in the league. They should take care of business on Merseyside today at 2/5. Add in two or more Arsenal goals for a more backable 4/6.
There’s only four places between Aston Villa and Leicester City but 10 points separate them in the table and under Unai Emery, Villa look the more likely to widen that gap today. The Spaniard is starting to get a tune out of the Villans who have won 10 points from the last 12.
The Foxes on the other hand haven’t won since the return to action after the World Cup. Brendan Rodgers has added a few new faces to his squad in January so he’ll be hoping they can make an immediate impact but based on recent form Villa look the bet here at even money with SBK.
St James’ Park was bouncing in midweek as the Magpies booked their place in the League Cup final at the expense of Southampton. The feelgood factor is coursing through the city of Newcastle at the moment and there’s no reason why they can’t take all three points against West Ham this evening.
Rangers have enjoyed Ross County‘s recent visits to Ibrox, they’ve won 5-0, 4-2, 4-1, 4-0 on the last four occasions.
Michael Beale’s men have been near perfect since his arrival but have yet to hand out a thrashing to anyone, although it could be just around the corner. Alfredo Morelos bagged two at Tynecastle in midweek and Todd Cantwell looks a good addition for the Light Blues and they always look potent going forward on their own turf.
The Gers are 13/8 to net Over 3.5 goals at Bet365 or you can have 19/10 on ‘any other score’ at SBK which would include a four-goal haul for the hosts.
The gap between the top two and the rest of the Premiership was exposed in midweek when Hearts were well beaten by Rangers but the Jambos are still the best of the rest. They should bounce back with a win over Dundee Utd who find themselves bottom of the pile after a midweek defeat at Kilmarnock.
Goals usually flow in this fixture with 25 goals scored in the last five meetings, Hearts scoring 16 of those, so instead of taking Robbie Neilson’s men at 7/10 take the 4/6 on them scoring two or more.
St Mirren look over-priced at home to Hibernian, whom the bookies make slight favourites to win in Paisley. The Buddies are having a terrific season and sit fourth in the table. Stephen Robinson’s men have lost just once at home, on the opening day of the season, and picked up 25 points from a possible 33 since then.
Inconsistent Hibs pulled off one of the results of the season last week when they thumped Aberdeen 6-0. That result signalled the end for Dons’ gaffer Jim Goodwin and it bought the Hibees’ boss Lee Johnson a bit of breathing space. He’s subsequently lost captain Ryan Porteous but managed to retain top scorer, Kevin Nisbet. The striker hobbled off early in the midweek draw with Ross County though and if he misses out this afternoon things swing further in St Mirren’s favour at 9/5 (SBK).
In the Championship, Inverness should take advantage of Morton‘s poor form. The Ton are winless in seven and having been second in the table a matter of weeks ago are now sixth. Inverness don’t have a great record at home this season but are unbeaten in four league games (W2 D2) and look a good option today at 31/20.
