The Premier League managerial merry-go-round has stopped – for now – and after the international breaks several new managers will be in place for this weekend’s matches.
Steven Gerrard takes charge of his first match as Aston Villa Manager where Brighton are the visitors. Former Villa gaffer Dean Smith will be bidding to get his reign as Norwich boss off to a winning start at Carrow Road against Southampton and Eddie Howe should have been in the dugout for Newcastle but will have to wait after testing positive.
A ‘New Manager’ Treble pays over 12/1 at Bet365 which includes a 5% bonus if you fancy it.
But the action starts at the King Power Stadium at lunchtime where Leicester City welcome top-of-the-table Chelsea. The Blues can extend their lead at the summit to six points and put more pressure on the chasing pack.
The Foxes have struggled this season and by their standards a mid-table position at this stage of the season is disappointing. They’ve lost more home games (11) in the Premier League than any other side since the start of last season.
On their day they’re capable of beating anyone but too often they’ve failed to find the right formula recently and Chelsea look a good bet at 3/4 or a more attractive 5/6 to score two or more against a side that’s kept just one clean sheet in 17, although Romelu Lukaku looks likely to miss out again.
The evening kick-off sees Liverpool host Arsenal, live on Sky Sports. The Reds lost ground on Chelsea when they were beaten by West Ham in London last time out and Jurgen Klopp will know there’s no room for any more slip ups of that nature.
Arsenal look a much more assured team than the one that started the season but it doesn’t come much tougher than a trip to Anfield under the lights. The Gunners have won just once against Liverpool while Klopp has been in charge and the Reds have won the last four at Anfield to an 18-4 aggregate score.
It’s hard to argue against a home win here and goals could be on the cards. A Liverpool win combined with 2 or more Liverpool goals pays 8/13.
In Scotland St Johnstone have won on their last four visits to Hampden but all of those were last season, in front of no fans, and not in the cauldron of a full stadium with 40,000 Celtic fans roaring their team on.
The Hoops too have a great record at the national stadium where they’ve won their last 12 matches, on their way to unprecedented Quadruple Treble – so something’s got to give.
It’s no surprise to see Celtic short priced favourites and they just keep getting backed, now in to 1/3. It’s a game Celtic should dominate on the big, wide pitch at Hampden so corners could be profitable once more. Bet365 have set the corner handicap at -4 and Celtic should beat that at 5/6.
Another team that have been backed early this week is Dunfermline who have new boss John Hughes at the helm for the visit of Ayr United. The Pars were on our radar last weekend and obliged with a win at Inverness at 9/2. They should build on that with the three points against an out-of-form Ayr Utd and are still bankable at 20/21 despite being as big as 7/5 at the start of the week.
A Championship Treble of Killie, Partick Thistle and Dunfermline all to win at home pays just under 5/1.

Golf Tips
Rory McIlroy (-9), Collin Morikawa (-8) and Bob McIntyre (-7) are all in serious contention after day two at the DP World Championship in Dubai. Three players are tied at the top of the leaderboard on -10 so there still plenty of chances for all three of The Caddy’s European Tour tips.
Russell Henley looks like The Caddy’s best bet in Georgia. The Georgian was tipped at 25/1 pre-tournament and finds himself T12, five strokes off the top, so some work to be done in the final 36 holes to get among the each-way money.
