Every three points are crucial at this stage of the season as teams chase silverware and league survival and we’re set for another crucial round of fixtures in the Premier League and beyond this afternoon.
Leeds look in big trouble at the moment. Last week’s 6-0 defeat was another gut-punch for Marcelo Bielsa’s side who have conceded 33 goals in their last nine Premier League matches and could drop in to the relegation zone today if results don’t go their way.
Their lunchtime opponents Spurs were so impressive at Man City last week but almost inevitably followed that win up with defeat at Burnley. Antonio Conte will be hoping for a positive reaction to his post-match comments in midweek where he appeared to suggest his days at the club could be numbered. He’s since softened his stance and his side should be good enough to win but it’d be a brave man to back them at odds on (4/5).
Harry Kane was outstanding at the Etihad a week ago and he’s 13/5 to open the scoring this afternoon.
Whisper it, but Newcastle might have finally turned the corner. A kind run of fixtures where they played four teams in the bottom eight resulted in 10 points from a possible 12 and they followed that up with a valuable draw at high-flying West Ham to make it five without defeat. That’s got the Magpies looking up the table and today’s opponents Brentford are one of the teams in their sights.
The welcome return of Christian Eriksen will grab all the headlines but good news is in short supply for the Bees at the moment. Their early season form has all but disappeared and they’ve picked up just four points from the last 30. Defeat today would see the Toon overtake them and based both team’s recent form the 21/10 on Eddie Howe’s side has to be considered.
Steven Gerrard’s honeymoon is well and truly over at Aston Villa and his side won’t find things easy at Brighton today. Just one point from three matches against bottom six sides isn’t good enough for Villa and the Seagulls can add to Gerrard’s woes with a win at 6/5.
With no game in midweek Man City have had a lot of time to dwell on last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Spurs and that can’t be good news for Everton. The Toffees look like they’ll be reliant on their home form to keep them clear of a relegation battle but even the most ardent Blue won’t be expecting much from this evening’s match at Goodison.
City have won nine in a row against Everton and should make that 10 tonight. Trying to find an angle is tough with City just 2/7 to win and Over 2.5 Goals at 4/7. Riyad Mahrez has padded out his scoring stats from the penalty spot in recent weeks so he heads the first goalscorer market but it’s Raheem Sterling who’s scored most league goals for City and he looks better value to break the deadlock at 5/1.
Free-scoring Fulham have scored 32 goals more than any other Championship side so you can’t go far wrong backing goals in their matches. They should be too strong for 19th place Cardiff but they have been tripped up on the odd occasion so Over 2.5 Goals at 4/5 makes more appeal.
Both teams have scored in Blackpool‘s last six and today’s visitors Reading look to finally have found a bit of form with two wins and a draw in their last three. The Royals are one of only three sides who’s matches average Over 2.5 Goals per game in the Championship so add this match to your goals accas.
Goals continue to fly in for Bolton who have now scored 11 on their last four and their match with MK Dons sees two form teams clash. Over 2.5 Goals pays a healthy 19/20.
In Scotland, Derek McInnes is finally getting a tune out of his Kilmarnock squad and it’s Kyle Lafferty who is the main orchestrator. The Northern Irish hitman has scored four in his last two and five in total since his January window arrival at Rugby Park and can guide Killie towards another three points at Dunfermline at 6/5.
